Does anyone's FH's know car accessories

I am thinking of getting FH a remote start for his truck for Christmas but am curious how hard it is to install them. He is pretty mechanically inclinced. I am just scared he will EF up his truck and it will cost us more to fix it.

If anyone's FH's or Dad's know cars can you ask them for me. It would only be the remote start he already has keyless entry.

Thanks!!

My FH just installed one for his dad's mini van.. I think it was really easy and did nothing bad to his car

My FH is pretty handy with cars, but he didn't want to risk installing the remote start on his own, because he was nervous that he'd mess up the computer somehow. He's always doing stuff with his cars (more stuff on his '72 Dart than the Subaru) and his friends' cars.

It wasn't that expensive when he had it installed.

i also don't think its too expensive if you bring the car to a mechanic and have them install it for you.

It's pretty cheap if you don't use a mechanic. There are plenty of places who have signs up with specials especially around the holidays. I know that on DH's commuter car which has a manual transmission and didn't even have keyless entry, installing remote start and adding keyless was a pain and he ended up paying someone to do it. That's a different scenario though.

yes i heard they could definately mess up the car if they're not installed properly.

Alright looks like I am pricing having them installed. i am too scared he will mess something up and it cost a fortune to fix. If anyone sees specials while shopping pass them along

Thanks everyone!!

The only negative about installing them yourself, is if something goes wrong and the car is on a lease or finace you might void some part of the warranty.

I know there's a place on rte 110 in Farmingdale that includes product and installation for $250 but I don't know anything about them. I've just driven past the sign.

I was going to get FH one for his car for his birthday.. I figured I'd have my brother (who is a mechanic) or my bff's father (who owns a garage) do it... both said 'NO WAY!'... they said while some are easy, others are HARD..

your best bet is to go to bestbuy. buy one there that comes with installation and give him the receipt or something and let him go and have it done

Last year when we moved to CT, I told FH I really wanted one so I can deal with the 'new england winters'....anyway, he is a car guy and he really looked into and a lot of people didn't recommend it. Even the dealer said don't do it. The reasoning is because when you install electrical stuff that didn't come in the car, it can easily cause other problems even if you know what your doing. Also, it voids the warranty. So I would just be careful of who you get to install it and do a lot of research.
