Does anyone's parents or grandparents have Life Alert?
My father is 72 and he has severe osteoarthritis in his one knee. His other knee was replaced but he cannot bend it - it's bendable but I think something happened to the muscle during his first surgery and now he cannot bend it on his own. Just 10%. He's overweight - says he tries to diet but isn't losing weight, has a hernia that his doctor says doens't need to be removed (???) and has had heart trouble in the past but that is OK now.
I'm trying to get him to get Life Alert. He's not fallen alot but if he does he would not be able to get up. He's fallen out of bed once and thankfully my sister was home and helped him up but it took her ages to do it, they almost called 911 to help him up.
There's alot more to this issue - his weight being the biggest one. His doctor is useless, I think. DAd won't go to a new doctor and he won't exercise. He says he can't. I want a physical therepist to come in and do stuff with him a few times a week and he says 'I'll think about it'. Oooooh. Very aggravating!
Anyway, if anyone knows about Life Alert (price, covered by Medicare, reviews) I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.

My Grandmother has it, and I think it's a really good idea. She's 90 and lives alone.
I'm sorry I don't know the cost and such. But I do know they call and have my grandma check the device each month. It was difficult to convince her she needed it, but I think she's glad she has it now.
If you don't have any luck, I can find out from my mom about the specifics.......

My mother has it. She lives alone and is a diabetic. She isn't disabled or anything, but she got it just in case anything happens to her while she is alone in the house.
I think it is a good idea for any elderly person, disabled or not, who lives alone.
I think it costs her something like $20 per month.
