Does cranberry juice work for UTI's? (sorry if TMI)

Ive also heard of this stuff Colloidial Silver thats a natural antibiotic. Does anybody know of a natural treatment?

I actually did hear that cranberry juice helps prevent them - I don't know if once you have it that it would help any.
Those are painful - I don't know of any treatment other than going to a Dr. and getting antibiotics.

I have never had one personally but girls I know that have said the DR told them to drink cranberry juice and they were also taking an anti biotic.

Cranberry juice does not help the pain but it is good for your kidneys. I drink a lot of cranberry juice. I am very prone to UTI's, I have been all my life.

You can get over the counter stuff called uristat (sp). It takes away the pain but you do need antibiotics to get rid of the UTI.

cranberry juice will alleviate the symptoms but will not get rid of the infection. you need to take anti-biotics to get rid of the infection. and don't wait to long to go b/c it can spread to your kidneys and that's bad.

I believe cranberry juice won't cure it but my gyno said it can help in preventing it.

I had one last year (right before a 6 hour flight to San Diego on business, yikes).

When I called my doctor she told me Advil and Cranberry juice. No antibiotics or anything. It went away in 3 days.

UTI's suck!!

I have battled chronic UTIs for the past 4 years...it's absolutely horrible.
I finally found an amazing urologist, Dr. Schulsinger at SUNY Stony Brook. He cultured the bacteria, gave me the antibiotics...once that was cleared, he then put me on a low dose antibiotic (nitrofurentoin aka macrobid at 50 mg.) that I take EVERY DAY to prevent the recurrence. This is not for everyone, but I get these infections at least once a month, so ever since I've been on this treatment regime, NO UTIs! It's been at least 9 months.

As for the cranberry juice, I think you have to get the kind that has NO SUGAR or something (it tastes aweful)...Ocean Spray etc. has too much sugar in it.
You can get the natural one from a health food store (I think the Ocean Spray says no sugar added, but the drink is still loaded with sugar).

As the other ladies have said, you need to go to an MD, have them culture your urine to identify which bacteria it is, and then take antibiotics to kill that bateria. The MD will also give you medication to numb your urethra so you don't feel the pain/urgency anymore.
