Its not tasty. Usually the baker will put buttercream underneath it to give it flavor. But fondant standing alone has a gumpaste texture with little to no flavoring.

Great description - right on the nose. I'm personally not a fan of the way fondant tastes, but it looks beautiful.

Re: Does Fondant taste good?
marzipan is almond paste, which tastes better than fondant but is similarly textured. perhaps your baker could use that as an alternative? that is, if you like almond and almond flavoring.

I dont think it is terrible tasting. It is nothing special. But I love the way it looks

most halls will actually remove the fondant before serving the cake. it peels off in a thick layer.

the fondant will make your cake flawless but it tastes nasty as hell. most of my guests took the fondant off. the ones that didn't.. well, they were being nice.

Re: Does Fondant taste good?
I will proudly stand up and proclaim that I LOVE fondant, and that when I go to weddings I hope that the Bride and Groom have put fondant on their cake so that I can eat the fondant.
Yeah, I'm weird.
That said, it wasn't on my cake. I don't think I had the option.

I love fondant icing. The best is fondant with a thin layer of marzipan underneath

it's a little on the sweet for me. i'm not a sweets person though. i wouldn't say the taste is horrible--- but i loved the way it looked so we used it.

I had fondant on my cake..it tasted like a marzipan but a little less *gritty* with the sugar. I actually liked the way it tasted with my cake.
