I like connecting with people and finding common sympathies...but listening is also important...is that the same? or is it more competition?

No, that's very different, it's one thing to find a common denominator, it's another to pull things out of your rear that have nothing to do with the topic but for to make you appear more intelligent than you are. That's the type I'm talking about. So annoying!! Even more so when you COMPLETELY ignore the fact that the other person was speaking and what they were speaking about, and take over the conversation to make it about you.

The person i know does it out of competition and low self image. She always has to top your story or try and make it seem she knows more than you!! or know someone who did this or that.... she annoys the crap out of me and shes a friends girlfriend, so its hard to avoid her!!! and she's always right too!

my aunts ex boyfriend was like that... but topped it with irrelevant stuff... i was talking about my rabbit once... and he had to say 'oh i have a dog.. and blah blah blah' I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT DOGS!!! I'M TALKING ABOUT RABBITS!!! he was also posing for a home movie camera. DURRR!!! hehe he was dumb!
