Does it really matter how you sleep while you are preggy?

Does it really matter how you sleep while you are preggy?

I was told and have read that its best to sleep on your left side. They say that you should try not to sleep on your right side or on your back but not to freak out if you wake up in that position. I try really hard to lay on my left side but I get so sore from laying on the same spot. Its getting very difficult to sleep.

I agree. I was wondering the same thing. I have been trying to sleep on my left side too and I am not comfortable. I am a stomach sleeper so it has been hard to change.

I am currently sleeping with so many pillows. My husband laughs and says they are taking over the whole bed and I am making a barracade between us.

I like to sleep on my stomach too, so my most comfy position to sleep is on my side, but with one leg on my body pillow, so it still kinda feels like im on my stomach, but of course not directly putting any weight on it, since my weight is leaning towards the body pillow, if that makes sense. I could never sleep on my back or totally on my side..

I do find that I switch sides alot, but I NEED my body pillow or too much pressure would be on my belly...

John and I laugh about the body pillow in between us too... He always says that line from that movie (Im SO not a movie guru, dont know what movie) where the guys says 'nothing will EVER come between us!' and they can NEVER hug eachother because there's always something in the way

I really wish that we bought a king size bed. I bought a body pillow last week, but there isn't enough room for me and hubby. I tend to sleep for four hours in bed, get up to use the bathroom then go to the couch for the rest of the night because I am having a lot of trouble getting back to sleep. The sad part is I am on 11 WEEKS!!!

I fall asleep for a few hours and then I toss and turn, toss and turn. Eventually I get up and go in the other room and watch some tv hoping to be so overtired that I will be able to go back to bed and fall asleep no matter what.

Good to know I am not the only one. We should go onto LIW when we can't sleep. At least we won't be lonely.

I thought the not sleeping was just me. I fall asleep in 5 minutes, but wake 3 hours later and can't get back to sleep. There's been nights where the 3 hours is all I'll get and then I am off to work all day. No wonder I am exhausted!

When you feel like this ... its amazing you get any sleep at all!! The reason that it is suggested that you sleep on your left side is so that you do not put too much pressure on the major veins running up through your leg to your heart. It is totally understandable that getting comfortable is a challenge & sometimes you just need to do what you have to to sleep!

Get as much sleep in any position you can now ... you won't be sleeping much after your baby is born!!

The left side allows the best filtration through your kidneys to help with swelling and filtering the toxins out of your body (and the baby's.)

I think that you have to switch sides because our poor hips weren't meant to lay on the same side night after night. I usually wake up about every 2 hours now from being uncomfortable and I think my body is just starting to prepare me for the days ahead. One night I fell asleep at 10:30, woke up midnight, made myself fall back to sleep at about 1AM and then was up at 3AM. At that point, I just got up and watched TV. BTW, there is absolutely nothing on at that time.

I also still catch myself sleeping on my stomach with my one leg pulled up to my neck...don't know how the heck I manage that one.

Oh the trials of a pregnant woman! I have been up since 5 am after literally waking up every hour since midnight. Turning over is such a chore when you have to drag that body pillow along with you. Sometimes I just say screw it and lay on my back. Once I am up my mind just starts racing with the worries. My DH works nights so I sleep much better the nights he isn't home - but Sundays and Mondays when we sleep together are tough.

I would ask your Dr.. becasue i am stomach sleeper and I started sleeping on my side as soon as I got PG to get used to it.. But I asked the Dr and HE said either side is ok and not to worry if I end up on my back in the middle of the night... So i would just ask...
