Does the church have to publish the bands to get married??
My FMIL wants to know this and of course I have no clue. I know the church does it, but if they don't what happens??

This is just a guess, but it hink its their own rule. I think they have to so people can say . hey wait, she's already my wife!
if they don't, they will probably marry you any if it was their mistake.

I think it depends on your age and your church. With my FH and I were are young (24 and 26) so they said it was up to us since they are pretty confident we werent lying about being married before. Ofcourse we are doing it - I want to see my name in the bulletin!

I had no clue that the church put your name in th bulletan. They did ask me if I wanted it or not. It was wierd seeing our names in the bulletan.

i know in my church it is the responsibility of the couple to contact the parish to have the banns published.

As far as I know YES, they have to be published. If you've noticed, they don't say 'does anyone object......' anymore. That is why they publish it. This is what I was told by my Parish.

its so that people know your getting married and if your already married then maybe people find out before it happens? they say your church and fhs church should both post them for like 4 weeks before the wedding
