Does the drama ever END???????????

Does the drama ever END???????????

I'm Jewish, FH is Catholic.

we're getting married at the hall by a Rabbi. when we met with him 2 weeks ago, he gave us the option of having a non denominational ceremony or a Jewish 'style' wedding where he would officiate as a Rabbi, wear the kippa, talit and there will be a blessing in Hebrew. but the vows will be the same vows used in a Catholic ceremony and reformed Jewish ceremonies. FH will also break the glass.

My FH chose the Jewish style wedding. I was surprised that he wanted it. at the end of the day, we are both believers and would like to have our marriage blessed by God.

So yesterday I was speaking to my FMIL and she mentioned that she would like his Uncle who is very involved in the Catholic church (but not ordained or anything) to speak at the ceremony!

She said that she wants someone there to represent her faith too. We looked into getting a Priest or a Monsignor several months ago but it would have cost a FORTUNE! She even told us at the time to “go have a nice Jewish ceremony”… and we are.

So anyway, I told FH and he said absolutely not and that it’s not at all appropriate.

It seems FH and I can’t get through 1 weekend without some kind of drama

Drama stinks, but at least your FH is sticking by you.

Oh my friend - we went thru the same thing. DH's mother wanted a rabbi since she assumed I would want a priest , but I didn't and DH didn't want a rabbi at all. So for the entire planning of our wedding, we had to listen to her over and over asking if we researched rabbi's or had considered it. She never took no for an answer. She even told her friends that I didn't want the rabbi!!! I left that decision up to DH since he is Jewish. Ugh, the closer you get, the worse it gets... trust me

Many hugs for you!!!!

she knew that's what we wanted to give away as favors. that was really generous of her and all. and I know she means well. But sometimes she over steps her boundaries. her son is the one who chose the ceremony type. she should accept it.

Yeah, I hear ya! Most do over step their boundaries and some don't. Just wait if and when you decide to have children..................

yea, I know. that will be a challenge. I remember when FH and I first started dating we had a pretty big argument about baptisms. we were just talking hypothetically at that point but I said that no child of mine would be baptized. he didn't think it was that big of a deal, but I do. When you have your child baptized, it’s a promise to raise the baby Catholic, and we are planning to raise our kids with both faiths.
