I did a speech when I was MOH, but that was the only time I had ever heard of it and I did it only because the bride asked - I would never have volunteered to do it. It wasn't as uncomfortable as I thought it would be though, because it was one of three speeches (the two best men did one and two of the groomsmen did one together) and mine was right in the middle and very short!

i asked both my maid and matron's of honor to say something... it was nice... i think their speeches were much nicer than the 2 best men...

I don't think it is 100% necessary- but my MOH did one for me, and when it is her time I will do it for her- it was actually the most AMAZING speech... she floored me.

I was my sister's moh and I made a speech. She didn't for mine. I guess it is up to the moh if she wants to give one or not.

I have 2 MOHs and they are doing a 'tag team' toast at the wedding! It was their idea too! Should be interesting...

As my sister's MOH, I gave a speech...and she will be doing the same for me. As with a lot of things, times are a-changing...if you want her to - and she's comfortable with it - then go for it!

It's up to the bride & the MOH... if it is what you both want, then do it. I have seen it done quite a bit recently, and I think it is nice to include the MOH in that way.... take all the attention off the men too

My brothers wedding was last weekend and The BM AND MOH both made speeches.

My MOH is really uncomfortable speaking in front of large groups so she did a toast at the rehersal dinner.

I asked my MOH to make a speach because she writes such beautiful things and she is very close to me so it meant alot for her to say a few words.

My MOH is going to give a speech at mine. My FH has two BM and they are giving a speech together. I think they're also giving speeches at the RD. I know the BM are.

the MOH doesnt do one at the wedding unless she volunteers herself for it

I had my MOH give a speech before dessert at my wedding. She was nervous and would have avoided it if I let her. I'm glad she did it though because it was a very nice, short speech and the BM was just a shock value/laugh kind of speech (funny/embarassing story about DH growing up).

My MOH (sister) wanted to - I think it is a nice touch but not necessary.

i have been the MOH twice and have never given a toast. i do not expect my MOH to do a toast - she hasn't mentioned it.
