IMO i would say the son would and maybe you can help him out if he has no ideas.

I'd say son. Fh and I are picking the songs as surprises to out parents.

my mother and brother picked it together. they each found a few songs they liked and then finally agreed on one.

Thanks ladies! My FH and I were looking for songs and I started to wonder if that was something his mom should be involved in.

I would say the son, but in some cases there might be a special son between mom & son that she may hope to dance with him to. Usually the bride & groom pick a son to surprise their parents.

My FH picked his mother-son song. It's a song that he knows has special meaning for her.

I picked my father-daughter song, too, if that helps.

I don't think it matters who chooses it, as long as they're both happy with the song choice.

my FMIL picked the song she liked FH listened to it and both agreed that was the song

i think they should both pick it out. FH had a song he liked and played it for his mom and his mom cried so thats the song.
my dad asked for a specific song for our dance so thats what we are dancing to

FH liked 'forever young' and told his mom she liked it too so they ;picked that one. I think it can go either way HTH

I guess it's between the Son and the Mom. Most times, I think it's a song agreed by both.

I left it up to FH and his mom. Ofcourse, he said she could pick whatever song she wanted. Then when he heard the song, he asked her to pick another one...haha... It's between the two of them, as long as they both agree.

OMG that's so funny. We were talking about it again today and he said maybe I should let her pick it. Then, he said, What if it's awful?

He likes the idea of surprising her and I know she'll love anything he picks.

My DH picked the song - his mom had no idea what they were going to dance to until the song started.

It really depends on the mother son combination. When my older son got married he let me pick the song, but when the younger one got married he wanted to pick it so he did and he made a great choice.
Sorry if this really is a non answer but it is the way it happened and I was happy with both.

Ok so this is the latest. FH and I were talking to his mom about songs today and asked if she had anything in mind. She likes a Celine Dion song (I forget the name). FH downloaded the song and she started crying It was so sweet. So he's going to tell her that he found another song which he plans on surprising her with, but in reality he's picking the song she likes. It'll be a sweet surprise.

So thanks for all your help everyone. Problem solved
