We booked our priest today, we really clicked with Father Joe Devincenzo. Are officiants usually invited to the wedding, how long do they stick around if not?

I'm only paying him to do his thing for 30 minutes.

I don't think so. I mean... ours is because our friend got ordained and is doing it for us... but thats a different situation :)

I asked this question when I was interviewing officiants - they said they stay for a bit of the cocktail hour but then quietly slip out well before the reception begins.

Mine had another wedding to do so he left right after the ceremony.

I was told you invite them to stay out of respect, but I think that may be an old fashioned custom, then again if you'd like him to perform a blessing before dinner it makes sense to invite him to stay.

i think you only invite them if they are from your parish and you have known them all your life

Nope!! Unless he is a close family friend I would skip the invite.

We asked ours to stay and enjoy the cocktail hour.

I think they stay and eat cocktail hour if your ceremony is at the reception hall.
