I have had friends and my parents saying we want to buy you an awesome gift - What do YOU want? - ok hmmm how about you come to my party and we will call it even. I don't know - I understand that people want to get you something but honestly I want them at the party the gift is not really as important. Does anyone else feel uncomfortable when they are asked this or do they feel ok saying get me x, y, or z

It depends on who it is.
I would feel uncomfortable if I did not know the people that well.

These people know I am registered and want to go above and beyond the registry for something to keep forever type of thing. Some of these girls are law school friends - and I know they are tight on money but they tell me money is no object what do you want.

It would make me uncomfortable. If I knew the person really well I would JOKINGLY say a house or something else utterly ridiculous. But all I really want from everyone is their presence.

ITA that it depends on who it is. Those I'm uncomfortable with I refer to the registry & tell them there are things there in all price ranges

These people know about the registry but wish to go beyond that for something more personal I guess. I tell them whatever you get I will love simply b/c it came from them b/c really what I want is just for them them to help me celebrate.
