Does this make you nervous?

I was wondering if there were any other shy brides out there? I am thinking that my shower is coming up soon...I have seen a lot of sneaky things go on and it has made me so happy and excited but at the same time..I AM SO NERVOUS!!!!!! I am not exactly a social butterfly and although these are my friends..his family I hardly know. I am embarrassed to open all the gits in front of everyone and have to comment on them, embarrassed to put on the hat, to say thank you, to greet people. I think the wedding will be easy for me cause fi will be my side. I just wanted to know if any other brides to be have felt like this before their shower or even maybe during a shower they have already had...do you have any suggestions on how to get through it? Thanks so much in advance!

Re: Does this make you nervous?

The day is going to go by soooo fast. Don't worry about anything! You'll be consumed opening presents for most of the time so you really won't have time to chit-chat. I know I was stuck in my chair for a while. Especially if your shower is at a place, there's a time limit... As far as wearing the hat, it's on for a brief moment. I know mine was pretty heavy and barely wanted to stay on my head. So let them take the pic and before you know it that too will be over. Don't stress out, it'll be a fun day. Like Christmas, but 10x's better, because it's all the stuff you like!!

Re: Does this make you nervous?

Chic, I am by no means a normally shy person, but I do get very very freaked when I am the center of attention around 45 people some of whom I hardly know and some I don't know all. I was dreading and totally mortified to be doing the whole shower thing and even wedding thing is freaking me a little, but you just have to grin and bear it, literally. Think of it as an acting job, your an actress playing in a movie (maybe that'll will work). Just smile make 2 minute small talk with everyone and when you open your gifts, ooooo and ahhhhh over everything and before you know it the party will be over and you and your FI will be sitting around ALONE WITH A TON OF GIFTS, and that my friend is an awesome feeling. You'll do great I promise GOOD LUCK.

Re: Does this make you nervous?

I felt the same way - I don't consider myself shy necessarily, maybe quiet in general. I don't ever like the spotlight shined on me - not looking forward to being announced as B&G during the reception! LOL

Anyway, when I started to freak about the shower, I realized that these people are all there for me, and they're my closest family and friends. There were some I didn't know, but not many. Everyone was so sweet and nice, it made me feel much better. I knew I was going to panic when I opened up a gift from someone I didn't know, but then I just said their name out loud, and the person waved their hand - I blamed it on the crowd staring at me! LOL

Don't worry - try and enjoy the day! It flies by

Re: Does this make you nervous?

Honestly it all goes fast. I am not a shy person but FMIL invited tons of people to the shower I have never met. I was scared because I couldn't even greet them because I didn't know their names! I didn't want to be rude. Wound up, people introduced themselves and we really really nice and it all worked out.

At my SIL's shower she was sooo shy. She felt weird opening her presents and doing all the stuff you said. I handed her a glass of wine and little by little her nerves wore away. Plus once you start opening things and people start talking you just have fun. It is a big party!

Re: Does this make you nervous?

I totally feel the same way!! I'm not even officially engaged yet, so I am a long way off of worrying about it - but - the entire wedding everything makes me nervous because I hate being the center of attention. And opening gifts - arghhh!! I hate doing it at Christmas and birthdays too, unless it's just my real close family and friends around. I understand how you feel but hopefully those on the board who have had their showers will tell you its fun and it probably flies by.
