Just curious. We live in a 2 bedroom apt. in the city so the space isn't tight....BUT, it's still an imposition (I think) to have guests b/c we USE the second bedroom as our office; it's just ANNOYING to have a guest stay with us - one that we have to entertain nonetheless! She hasn't stayed with us THAT much - it's just the principle. I'm afraid if i let her stay this time, she'll stay all the time.....PLUS, it has created SUCH a fight b/w my FH and I because he doesn't get why I make such a big deal of it - she doesn't want to spend the money on a hotel room, so why can't we help her out???? I don't know....she's nice....she's generous....but she HAS money so why is she being cheap and staying with us THE NIGHT OF MY SHOWER!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankfully no. She lives two miles away.
That really hard to live with anyone not a SO in such a small space.
ETA: I just had my shower and was so exhausted afterwards I just wanted to be by myself . My MOH stayed with us but she understood and we just both were ready to sleep.

Good advice...and here's to hoping...I'm going to be SO tired that I will just want to collapse - and i'm thinking, 'now i have to pull the bed out for her, make small talk' ARGH!!!!!!!!! anyways, my personality should begin to match my pretty dress (on the left) a little bit more. thanks again!

that's okay my FFIL is staying here (as well as about 6 other people) and we're paying for a rental car for him!!!! So FI and I are fighting over that one!!!

See that's the thing - I don't know if it's me, or that I was raised differently, but PARENTS are not supposed to lean on their CHILDREN...it's just the way I was raised. WIERD that other people assume we'll cater and host their needs - sooo annoying!

ARGH - she is now definitely staying with us for at least ONE night (the night of my shower) do you guys think i'm being a baby about this??! I'm going to be so exhausted after my shower and now I have to cater to her when I come back here - argh!!!

In all honestly, you do sound a tad bit whiney to me, no offense. I mean yes it is annoying, but it is your FH's mother (not some distant relative) and it's only one night.

thank you for that =) i needed that. i don't know why i feel so wierd about it.....prolly b/c my mom always says to me, 'She does WHAT when she visits??! how could she STAY with you?!' my mom has really made it out to seem like she is committing a heinous crime. Maybe it isn't os big of a deal....it's hard to see it like that when everyone around you inflates it into a huge deal.

It's understandable that you feel weird about it when you've been brought up with different values. And I think everyone deserves to be self-centered on the day of their shower! I was! I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think though. Have FH entertain her while you take stock of your gifts again.
