Doesn't make sense: Article re: Family reunited with dog

DId anyone read the article in Suffolk Life about a family reunited with long lost dog after three years.

The article says that the dog was rescued from the pound by Save A Pet (They do such great work!), and that Save A Pet scanned the dog for a microchip...and he had one...so they found his owners.

The article said that the dog was about to be euthanized when rescued by Save A PEt.

HERE's WHAT DOESn't Make Sense:

Why the heck didn't the pound scan the dog for the microchip? THEY are supposed to! Are dogs being euthanized without this procedure. I'm so angry....but I will follow up with calling the pound (Brookhaven Animal Shelter), maybe the article is wrong

I was thinking the same thing!! From what I hear, Brookhaven is a total craphole and they just put dogs down as soon as they show up over there...I know of one family they did this to. The dog was only gone 2 days and the pound picked him up the day before

Wait a second...isn't Brookhaven Animal Shelter a no kill shelter?
This article is really bugging me...I have to call them tomorrow.
