FH and I are considering getting a dog but have concerns because we will be TTC right away. What breeds historically do well with babies/young children?
This is just my opinion, but I had never had a puppy before and didnt know how much work they were. We looked into different breeds and decided on an English Bulldog because they are supposed to be very mellow and great with kids. not big shedders, etc.
We are having a baby in 2 1/2 months and this is such a stresso fmine. The dog is OK with my son, never went to nip him or anything, but she's rough, jumps up and her hair is EVERYWHERE. It's a huge commitment, and between that and having a new baby around, just make sure you're not getting in over your head. They are both a TON of work.
Good luck!

Re: Dog breeds good with babies?
Rottweilers....ours 'herds' our nephews and watches their every move to make sure they don't get hurt. When one was a baby, she was watching him climb upstairs as we all ate dinner, she let out a woof to bring out attention to him!
We are also part of her pack and makes sure we are always safe....she even checks on us every night as we sleep!

Re: Dog breeds good with babies?
We have a black lab and he is so good with kids. Plays well, but never jumps on or at them and never bites or chews on anything in our house that he knows is not from his toy basket. And when he gets tired out he just leaves the room and goes upstairs to nap on his bed!
I have a yorkshire terrier, she loves the baby! she licks her feet all the time and wags her tail and I have a white sheppard and both are great around the baby
