Dog hair loss? Can someone help me?

Dog hair loss? Can someone help me?

First off, I know this doesn't belong here but I'm praying it doesn't get moved because who ever goes on the pet board.

My dog has been losing hair lately. We took him to the vet, the vet is testing for different things and has him on a fatty acid suppliment in case it's just dry skin and a prescription dog food in case he's developing a food allergy.

I've been researching dog hair loss on my own and I've been reading a lot about seasonal flank alopecia...specifically in boxers, which is what Jeter is.

Has anyone dealt with this before with their dog? Any help would really be appreciated. I called the vet to ask about this and she's supposed to call me back soon but I thought I'd ask here too. Thanks in advance, if you can help/

Thanks Donna. The saddest part is that he can't have treats because he's on a special diet to rule out food allergies. So sad!

What kind of dog is he? I have a chihuhua she stated losing hair on top of her hear by her eyes and on her throat. I was really concerned, so I took her to the vet and paid $350 for them to tell me that it's her breed.

eta: Sorry I didn't read the boxer part.

My first dog was losing hair and I took him to several vets.

They told me they think its food allergies and we changed her diet, but it didn't help. I didn't give up and heard that this doctor at the Animal Medical Center http://www.amcny.org/ in Manhattan is a specialist and does wonders. His name is Dr. Mark Macina, and he is the head of Dermatology.

I went to Dr.Macina and he knew right away what was wrong with my dog. Took some skin samples and then gave us three different types of medication that was formulated just for the dog. These meds were shipped over night every other week and did wonders.

We saw results within a week and his hair grew back. I think the condition was called Atopy in dogs. It was so worth the visit and we have not had any issues with the hair loss anymore.

The medication was covered by the dog insurance so my suggestion is to get the insurance first then go visit Dr. Macina. He is awesome and so nice.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much. I will definitely look into atopy and the doctor you recommended!
