dog has been having 'accidents' **Updated...all good last night:)

our dog is just shy of 2 years...and pretty much after he turned 4 months...he never had an accident...

but starting last week he started going #2 in the house!!! it started during the day while DH and I were both out...but now it is in the middle of the night...

we have been trying to jump up if we hear him moving around...but its usually too late...

we take him outside before we go to bed...

even last night...I made him walk outside in the yard 2 x at 11 and 11:15...I fell asleep at 11:30...and DH woke up at 11:58 and the dog had gone...

I even put our exercise ball in the doorway of the room he has been doing it in (he is scared of the ball)...we have to leave the door open, b/c the cats litterbox is in there...but I think tonight I may try to close it anyway...b/c the cat will let us know that she has to go...

is this psychological...or are we not meeting his needs? I was going to try to stay up last night...but I've been sick and took some Nyquil...so that didn't work...maybe tonight

Trying to think of what it could be. Are you feeding him late?
Did anything change recently that he may be upset about?
Do you think he is sick?

Did you call your vet to ask? It might be psychological, but it also could be that he is sick. I would def call the vet.

- he has always been a free eater...but i did hear him chomping away in the middle of the night...

- hes a pretty scared dog...anything can upset him - if we put on our shoes he starts shaking b/c he knows that means we are leaving

- he did throw up yesterday...but I thought it was from chewing on a bone he found while walking with DH...

AND we filled up his marrow bone with PB and he hasn't eaten it yet...usually he scarfs it down...could he be sick?

Re: dog has been having 'accidents'

I know dogs and cats are different...but a couple of years ago I noticed a change in my cat.

She's always been a good eater and as a result, a good 'reliever'. But one day she was squatting outside her box - something she had NEVER done before. She also started throwing up. Turned out she was blocked! Even though her appetite was there (albeit it changed a bit) and she was managing to 'push stuff' out. To this day, she is on medication and has to be monitored for her constipation problem. It's apparently quite common in older cats...

Maybe you should just bring him to the vet and have them look at him.

Maybe you should bring him to the vet or discuss it with your vet and see what it could be. The dog may be sick. Is he sleeping more or does he seem to be hiding from you?
Sometimes they just want to be alone and not show us when they are sick.
I hope everything is ok. Let us know.

I would bring him to the vet. Sounds like he might be sick with a virus or something.

OK...so he may have had a little bug?

but yesterday he started running around like a mad man like he does everynight...AND he ate his peanut butter bone!!!!

I think it may have been that bone that he found...I threw it out...i just think he has a sensitive stomach...

and last night I was nervous...b/c he didn't go before bed...but he made it through the night...(I also picked up his food dish...so he couldn't late night eat)

I think he is back to normal!!!
