Is it safe to bathe dogs with baby shampoo? I have a maltese dog. We usually use dog shampoo, but I'm curious it it safe to use baby shampoo?

I use Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo on my yorkie and it works really well...I actually gave him a bath at my parent's place last weekend with real dog shampoo, and it made him greasier than the baby shampoo.

The baby shampoo has worked great on him and then I use a little bit of conditioner as well.

Depends on your dogs skin. I used to use that on my Pekingese pups and it worked well- if you are in a pinch it's fine. I now use a moisturizing aloe dog shampoo and won't go back to people shampoos b/c they smell nice longer with the dog shampoo. If your dog itches more after the bath it's skin may be irritated or dry so just watch for that.

it depends on your dog. But more importantly I am sure you are spending a pretty penny on your dog flea medication. You should use dog shampoos that don't wash out the flea meds.

Not sure, but I have a Maltese, and if I wash him with anything but hypoallergenic doggie shampoo he itches and itches.

I also use herbal essence on Spike. I like how he smells with it.
He seems to like it as well.

No!! I had a Maltese. Over time it will dry out their skin and cause serious irritation and they will start chewing themselves. Only doggie shampoo and not often.

I guess whatever works for your doggies is fine...mine has some serious allergy problems, so I spend more on his shampoo and conditioner than I do on myself!!!!!

I have a Yorkie and was told by my vet not to use baby shampoo. He said to make sure to use a shampoo that has moisturizer in it. You have to be careful not to dry out their skin.
