Dog owners

Can anyone recommend a good training school?
Our breeder wants the pup enrolled in a 'puppy kindergarten' and socializing class.

I'm sitting in on a class that's held in Commack, this weekend, but if anyone has any recommendations I'm open to it.

We're picking her up this Friday and want to find a pup school ASAP.

I had private lessons with Joe Knapp. He is an expert. He uses positive punishment (chain collar) to teach the dogs. He really is excellent. Sorry, I don't have his contact information anymore.

We are bringing our dog to Quail Run out in Medford. That is were we also board our puppy. The classes start in September so I can't say how good they are but they are very nice and have a great reputation. They only do positive reinforcement and the classes are multiple dogs so it also helps with socialization : ).

Re: Dog owners

Thanks guys.
I don't want any type of choke collar training, as ridgebacks don't respond well to positive punishment and chain collar methods. I want to look into clicker training as well...

I'll look into the place in Medford but it might be a bit far...

Guess I'll just sit in on the class in Commack and see how that goes. In the meantime, here's the most recent pic of the pup:

She's almost 8 weeks.

Beautiful dog! Ever think about having a private trainer come to the house?

The pet store by me was recommending this woman to another customer. I'll ask them about her the next time I'm there.

Re: Dog owners

I checked out the place in Commack over the weekend and we're definately going to her for pup kindergarten and socialization. She said she'd do clicker training as well.

When we move to basic obedience I'll probably start looking again though. We want to start showing her at 6 months so I want to find someone who really knows what they're doing and who hopefully has some experience with this breed.

Thanks for the suggestions!

CONGRATULATIONS!
Your life will never be the same!
If you would like I can ask my friend for her trainers #
If is lifelong training so after the regular classes are finished you call whenever needed and the trainer comes to you. A major bonus is that if you have to go away they come and pick up your baby to take to camp. Camp offers lots of fun and socialization. When you come back they return the dog to you. My friends have been very happy with them.
FM me if you would like info
Enjoy your pup!

Susan - she is sooo adorable! I want to hug her!

I can recommend a trainer in Park Slope, but I assume that is too far away.

I didn't take my dog to puppy kindergarten, but I heard it is so much fun. Enjoy!
