Dog owners - how long did it take your puppy to be trained?
And not go in the house.....where you could let him / her roam around the house. Just wondering. Thanks!

hmmm....I think around the 3/4 month-6 month mark she knew she was supposed to go outside, but had the occasional accident due to not being let out or overexcitement up till 1 year old

My little girl is just over a year old. We have only had her about 3 months. We put her in a crate at night b/c if we leave her out she will pee or poop. She wont do it in her crate. We have her on a schedule. She is not very vocal about wanting to go out. When she is home during the day she is fine.

We've had Bama for 3 weeks (he's 13 weeks old) and he still has accidents. When he has to go, he'll usually go to the top of the stairs, and if we follow right behind him he'll go down the stairs to the back door where we let him out. Sometimes we don't see him go to the stairs so he decides not to wait for us and does his business right there - yuck. Other times he just forgets that's he's supposed to go outside!

my doggy knows that he has to go out ( 7 months old) and does the majority of his ' business' outside but he does still have accidents, but pugs are supposed to be hard to train, plus he has to be walked- we are in a co-op so that is harder than just letting him out, and we would be able to let him out more often a if we had a yard

about 4 months for us. I do still keep him locked up when we are not home, but it is because he is like a bull in a china shop & knocks things over when he walks

Bama hates the rain! I stood out there with my golf umbrella trying to shelter him so he'd pee. He did NOT like being out there!

We got my lab as a puppy and only once when he was sick did he go in the house.
From the day I got him he cried at the door to go out. The breeder crate trained them so that at night they went in a crate and during the day they played in the yard. When he was very young we kept him in the crate when we weren't home, and we let him outside the minute we took him out of hte crate. He never once went in his crate.
At about 5-6 months we started leaving him out of the crate when we weren't home, but only for short times, then about 9 months we got rid of the crate all together.
Oh yeah.. rain... Hawkins does NOT like it, to this day he will cry at the door to go out, we open the door, he sees the rain and turns right around 'I'd rather hold it'

we got my cavalier king charles in january when she was 3 months old. Just recently has she gotten trained. It almost happens overnight.
we let her roam around the house most of the time leaving a wee wee pad in the kitchen and she would go to it. and to train her to go outside, she rings a bell that hangs from the back doorknob. we got that idea from a puppy training video and it worked!
