Doggie Sitters

Doggie Sitters

I am wondering what to do with my dog when I go on my honeymoon. I have no one to leave him with and I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good dog sitter place. I don't want to leave him a place I have never dealt with... Does anyone have ideas???
FYI: he is a large breed.

Where do you live? I have two people in the Fort Salonga area.

I've also recommended THe Mailbue Pet Hotel in Freeport to someone I work with and they had no complaints (search for their website)

Check with the assistants at your local vet, but ask them when no one is around. We were at our vet with our cat and we were talking to one of the assistants. She was a college girl in vet school looking for extra money and she offered to come to our house for the three weeks we were gone and take care of our cats. She was a sweet girl and did a wonderful job.
Also, you can board your pet at the vet. Our vet in Merrick charges $17 a day to board your pet while your away.
Also, check the local pennysaver, I remember seeing a girl that advertised she did pet sitting.

I don't recommend the Malibu Pet Hotel in Freeport. We went and checked it out, and it seemed like such a horrible place. First, they wanted tons of papers on our cat, proof of vaccinations, and adoption papers, we have no idea where we put all that. Then we would have had to get a bunch of other shots for the cat before we left her there. They just didn't seem like a very caring and friendly place. This was my experience, but maybe others had a better experience.

Ooooh!! Yuck on Malibu!! I never used them - I had just seen there website and it was convenient to the person I worked with.

BTW, the girl who takes care of our dogs is our vet tech. We needed someone to watch our two dogs (at that tme) and the vet was gonna board them for us but then he was like, why don't you just talk to Elyse? And it's been the best thing we could ever have asked for!! Until she moved upstate when she broke up with her fiance!! So we used someone else she recommended (who now seems to do all the dogs in our neighborhood).

She ended up moving back which is great and she is evern assisting us on our wedding day!!

In Port Jefferson Station there is a doggy day care called K9 Camp. Sometimes I'll drop off my dog for a day of play and a change of pace for him, they also do training, grooming, day care and 'boarding'. If you would like more information or their # let me know. My friend drops her dog off there sometimes too. They call the dogs 'campers'. On Halloween they tied halloween bandanas on their necks and gave us a goodie bag w/ dog treats in it and they have gotten pretty popular that they have expanded....
