Re: doggy health insurance?
i don't have it yet but i am going to get it for both my dogs. but i believe if it's a pre-existing condition the insurance won't cover it.
i believe this insurance has a list of everything they cover.

my dog has pet insurance, you have to be careful because if its 'pre-extsiting' they will not cover it. Also pet insurance usually takes about a month to kick in after you sign up for it. I would call the different ones and find out what types of breeds are not eligible for what type to treatments.
Buddy has VPI its a little expensive but it has already paid for itself.

Re: doggy health insurance?
i just called VPI but it takes 2 weeks to become active...so if i take her today without insurance and they document a lump ...aren't they going to consider that pre-existing?

yes if you're dr documents that its a lump they will say its pre-existing. So if your dog can wait I would wait. I'm sure its a fatty lump that is harmless.

We use VPI also but, they may not cover if it is pre-exsiting.

Re: doggy health insurance?
It could still be considered preexisting if you go even the day the insurance kicks in since lumps don't generally develop overnight. As for the lump, it really depends on the dogs age. Also, to test for cancer costs in the thousands, with an MRI being a $1k alone. The chemo and rad is in the thousands. It could cost over 10k. If it is a breed that is deemed to have that type of cancer or condition, it can be denied also. My dog is believed to have a brain tumor due to his symptoms but we can't afford all the testing. I am speaking from experience. I found out my breed wouldn't have been covered with the insurance. There is a neulogist/specialist in Plainview that would specialize in this but it cost over $150 to walk in their door.
