Same here. Although we use over the counter stuff for the two big dogs, just not Hershey (she once had a very violent reaction).

Re: Dogs and Tick
you should put the tick in seal proof container or a ziploc bag. Your dog could've been exposed to lyme disease.

He has had his lyme shot! So i am not too worried and my FH knows what they look like and since he is the one taking them out i am comfortable that they aren't. Bumping for any other advise
I start my flea and tick prevention on May 1st. Maybe start a little sooner if you have high grass or a lot of trees near your home. I use Revolution, it protects against fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, mange, ear mites, and parasite worms. It is a little more expensive but you dont have to buy Heartgard then.

it is a pill?
Nope it is the vial/tube of stuff you squirt between their shoulder blades, the same as Frontline I think.

Re: Dogs and Tick
Usually if your dog is already on a heartworm preventative (like centinel), it should actually ward off any ticks.
Otherwise go to a vitamin store and pick up some brewers yeast tablets. It's a natural insect repellent for canines and humans, too. However, if your dog's stomach is sensitive to yeast products, I suggest you wait until the vet appt.

my dog is 1 and a half. I don't know if his stomache would be upset by yeast pills...But thank you for the info!
