Dogs & Cars

How do you transport your dog?

Do you put him in a cage?
do you put a doggie seatblet on?

none of these things work for me...
any suggestions?

For short trips he just sits in the back seat or the front if FH isnt there and for long trips, he has this thing that attaches to the seat belt to keep him in place. FH actually made his little seat belt out of thick straps... he is very handy and creative.

He can get out of the harness? You have a doggie houdini there.
He is small enough to go in a crate right? He may not like it compared to being on mommy's lap but it is safer.

hmmmm i guess he can but i would hate to do that....but you are right it is more safe

My Martin is a Min Pin and is lanky (is that a word?) . I thought that seatbelt thingy would be great until 2 minutes into driving he decided he wasn't into it as much as i was...

I have to get one of these for Sandy. I cant take her in the car by myself. She crawls into my lap or on the floor of the car.

Well does Martin have a regular walking harness? Maybe if there is enough room, you can feed the seatbelt through his own harness because you know whether or not he can get out of that one.

We put Bama in the crate for long rides, and in a seatbelt harness for shorter rides. We got this one from Petco:

It fits like a vest and then you slide the seat belt through a loop in the back. It's adjustable and should fit snugly. There's no way Martin could get out of this!

The pug just sits on the floor in the back of my car. The shiba inu sits in a harness.

We have a blanket in the backseat. He LOVES the car.

Gizmo lays in his bed in the backseat.

I have a truck and the seats are down so Casey wonders the back of the truck. If we put her blanket in the car she usually lays on that in the back.

Chewie usually stays in his big crate in the back of DH truck. He sleeps most of the time.

Otis is on my lap also!! SO bad I know!! But long trips I would get the seatbelt harness attachment for him!! I'm gonna try to put him in the back of my car and see if he likes it back there!!

Don't laugh, but I have a dog car seat. Tyson is 10 lbs, so he can (and does) like to move around the car while I drive. He's on my lap, in the back seat, back and forth...it's dangerous.

I got a car seat on ebay that is padded and you buckle the seat into the car. Then you put the dog in a harness and the harness hooks into the car seat. It's really safe and tyson likes it. It puts him at window level, so he can see out the window. For small dogs, just using a harness didn't work, but the car seat does.

Try ebay, they have plenty of them listed!

Charlie sits in the backseat if FH is with us or in the front seat if it's just the 2 of us.

Usually Peanut just sits on the lap f the passenger Or if there is no passenger she sits/lays in the front seat.

We have a Jeep and Casey goes in her travel crate. She also gets very very carsick so this works well for us.
