Dogs vs. Cats

I'm a cat lover. My mom tried to give FH and I a newborn kitten she found, as an engagement gift and FH said No. He doesn't want a cat scratching all our new furniture.
My parents are having their wood floors redone in Jan and we have to take one of the cats for 3 days, so maybe that will be when I can convince FH.
