Doing own hair and makeup?

Doing own hair and makeup?

Is anyone considering doing their own hair and makeup? Whenever I have gotten my hair done for events in the past I have never liked it. Whenever I get made up by someone at a store, I never like it and they always choose such bad colors for me. I am still not sure what to do!

I feel the same way with makeup, I think the best thing to do is buy your own makeup and have them apply it, this way you know how the colors already look on you. This is what I'm planning on doing and a few of my friends have done the same. Also, try to stick with colors you wear all the time so you don't look drastically different on your wedding day

As far as the hair, have you considered having trials done? I think the best thing to do is maybe show them pictures of your hair in the past (how it was done professionally) and tell them thats not what you want.

I feel your pain. It's such a big part of your look, and it's the thing I worry about the most lol.

I am never satisfied with the way my hair is done, but I also know that I could never do the style I want myself. So I guess I will be doing a few trials with several stylists beforehand, and pray i find someone I like. If your style is a simple one, you could try it a few times on yourself and see if you can do it.

Make-up I'm okay with. I used to work as a make-up artist for Bare Escentuals, so I could do it myself if I have to. But my BFF is a make-up artist for MAC & Laura Mercier, so I'm going to use her.

You should defintely have a trial before hand. Or go to a counter and pick your color scheme yourself, and they can show you how to apply it. And then practice it several times before the big day.

Good luck!

My cousin is doing our hair (she's a professional) and we're doing our own make up. Partly because we want to save money and partly because I'm not into lots of make up or crazy hair styles, I just want simple and natural looking. Since I don't wear make up that often, it'll be fancy for me if I even put on the bear minimum.

You have to do a bunch of trials and find someone - especially for makeup - that will do it how you want it - natural and not 'caked on'. I have someone for makeup that is fantastic - fm me if you want me to give you her number.....

There is no way I'm doing my own makeup...I'm actually pretty good at doing my own, but there's still a level of awareness that a professional will have that I wont. Sometimes I think my makeup is perfect and I'll take a picture and the flash will make some spots lighter than others, for example. Someone else doing my makeup will allow them to catch flaws I would not see myself. I know its an added expense, but to me its worth it, if you are not happy with your makeup, it will be in every picture, so to me its not worth the savings. If anything, I would go to a makeup counter and have it done there to save. I wouldnt do it myself.

I am usually not satisfied with way anyone does my hair or makeup but i am not too good at doing my own either- don't really wear too much makeup so don't know too much about it. Guess I will have to do several trials to figure out what I like.

i have had ALOT of bad experiences of ppl doing my hair and me not liking it for events. Actually most of the time i didnt like it. So i did alot of research and i kept seeing trials of a particular vendor who did alot of trials and day of the same way i like it. Usually i leave a place a bit annoyed or real mad and theres always something wrong but i left this vendor thinking OMG it came out better than i even hoped for.

Department stores ive also had ALOT of bad experiences, they use horrible colors on me and just didnt like it. But i love how my make up trial came out for person i am using for the wedding.

Definitely go on a trial, look at who others girls are using and this way you see the make up artists work and hair stylists work from beforehand so you'll know ahead of time how good they are

also another thing to consider is that how you look just walking around in your make up is very different than how you will look in professional pics. The flash is strong and can make you pale and look different.

I think my makeup looks good in person, but disappears in photos (i look really pale and ghosted out). A friend of mine looks amazing in photos but her makeup doesnt look as good up close. I'd like to look good in person and in photos on my wedding day.

I think there is a huge huge difference between pro makeup artists who really know what they are doing, and someone who 'does makeup'

ex: one of my BMs went to a local salon and got her makeup done for her cousin's wedding. she thought it came out pretty good, but when she watched my makeup trial she said my MU girl was in a totally different league. (she does work for CNN, etc and lots of private clients)

Why dont you do your own makeup the way you think you would on your wedding day, and then take lots of pictures in different lighting and see how it comes out. you can also do a makeup trial to compare, but if you do, go with someone really good.

one more thing, if you are getting your makeup done at a store then it's totally different. I used to work at Ulta the summer before college and I had no training whatsoever except how to use the register. they had me doing makeup on people all the time!

People in stores dont always know what they are doing, they are just trying to sell product. way way different from a pro makeup artist.
