I just found out that I can save a ton of money by buying wholesale flowers and making my own centerpieces. I was wondering if anyone has tried or is trying this. I was thinking of ordering some say 6month before the wedding and see if I can manage to put together my own centerpieces. This way I'll know what day to order, store them etc. Is this a good idea?

Re: Doing your own floral arrangements
i think u should shop around to explore all ur options before doing it yourself, whether cheaper/easier flowers will do it. wedding is too stressful itself, flowers are not worth the additional stress if they get messed up..but just my opinion i have no experience.

Re: Doing your own floral arrangements
I did it for e-party, it was ALOT of work. Flowers from a wholesale place come closed so you have to take good care of them in order for them to bloom. Depending on the type of flower(s) you get might be easy or hard. I had to change the water in ALL the vases a couple times a day bc they had to stay in warm water, not to mention i had vases of flowers EVERYWHERE lol. I had to also get bamboo sticks to put into each stem bc it had a hollow inside. Then i had to keep my apartment like a sauna bc needed to stay in very warm temperature. Plus not to mention the stress of not knowing whether all my flowers would bloom. I was so nervous about this, and was worried even if a few flowers wouldnt bloom. Thank god it was just the e-party the stress for the e-party alone got to me
Do you know what type of flower you would want to do? that might help with your decision. Also would somebody be able to help with transportation the day of and take the flowers to the Rh that day?
Another thing i always remember on here are 2 brides who did their own CP's and what they went through. One bride got no sleep the night before bc she was up until 4am doing her cp's and had to be up at like 6am I think and another one where there was a mess up and then was stuck doing them all the night before too.
Also wholesale places will do the flowers for you if you want, might be cheaper than a florist this way too

Re: Doing your own floral arrangements
i'm doing all my flowers
plus we aren't having a huge wedding (about 100 people) and i did a few trials with cheap flowers and they aren't that hard. i say try it see what you think and go from there
there are a lot of step by step videos online too that are very helpful
i will make a album tomorrow with my samples i made tomorrow
Hmmm that makes me think twice about it. I certainly don't want to be up until 4 am. I think I will have to shop around a bit and get some more price quotes!

Re: Doing your own floral arrangements
I purchased some flowers etc. to try to my own CP's but it didn't work out. Even though it will save you money in the end it doesn't save time. I'm still searching for my florist.

like i said depends what type of flowers and arrangments you want to do. For me the set up of them was the easiest part. I had to put all the vases in boxes and put them in one persons car and then the flowers i kept the long boxes they came in and put them in there without the top in another car. Once we got to the hall it took so quick to set them up. I picked flowers specifically that I only had to throw them in the vase and it would be fine. It was the whole process beforehand of taking care of them that was the hardest. And if you want to test it out, test it out the way you would buy it from a wholesale place, not a flowershop where the flowers are opened already. Regardless of which you get it from, if its from a wholesale place will need about 3 or more days beforehand to pick them up and care for them. If its from a flowershop then you would have to pick them up a day or 2 the most so they dont die or get wilted at all.
Also keep in mind that at an RH you can only start setting up a certain amount of time beforehand, like 1-2 hours, so not like you can bring flowers way ahead of time. So somebody would have to drop it off lets say 2 hours before

Re: Doing your own floral arrangements
I thought about it, but then found a wondeful florist who did exactly what I wanted and charged me $40 less per centerpice than the major vendors where quoting me. Look around, you will defenetely find something that suits your needs, dont feel limited by what you see on this site. go to the mom and pops florist around your neighborhood or around the RH, haggle, get reference, etc.
Its too much work, and trust me on THE day, there wont be enoght time.

Re: Doing your own floral arrangements
i considered doing all our flowers but to be honest, after I calculated the cost of materials AND LABOR and the stress considering you'd have to do this either the night or the day of the wedding along with a million other things you have to do, I thought I'd spare myself of the added stress and let a professional handle them -- and I found an AWESOME florist who gave me the best prices ever!! sooooooooo worth it! FM me if u need more info ...
