Aside from Hawaii, is anyone staying in US for their honeymoon? We are thinking about cancelling our planned honeymoon to Italy, and I'm trying to get some ideas. Thanks.

How about the CA coast?? Rent a convertible and drive up/down the coast? Hit the wineries and stuff like that!

What about New Orleans? I have been twice and I loved it. Nice hotels, great restaurants, things to do.

We don't know what we are doing yet b/c of FH's schedule but here are some ideas: Montreal and other cities and resorts in Canada (yes I know this is canada and not USA but I know a few people who have been there and rave about it) The keys or other florida area There are beautiful resorts in I think some of the national parks California - you could go to san fran. go to napa valley then drive down the coast and stay at various resorts along the coast and end in san diego or another city. There are some great places to go and relax - Woodstock inn or the Mount washington inn - in vermont and new hampshire (they have horse back riding, golf, hiking, scenic drives, picnics etc. Rent a house on the Cape or martha vineyard. You could rent a car and drive across the country and stay at various resorts/hotels and see grand canyon and other sites along the way.

We're doing the mainland!
We're going to Las Vegas for 4 days, staying at the Bellagio in a lake view room, then heading to San Francisco for 4 days. We'll be doing day trips up to Napa and Sonoma. We're staying in Fisherman's Wharf at the Hyatt there.

Why are you cancelling Italy? I thought we were going to be seeing each other there!
But, if you are serious about staying in the US...
Sedona, Arizona is beautiful! I also recommend the San Francisco Bay area with a side trip to Napa/Sonoma; Newport, Rhode Island; and Charleston, South Carolina. FM me for more info on hotels/resorts, etc.

We are going to fly into San Fran and drive down the coast highway to LA (Santa Monica), then fly to Las Vegas for a few days.
I've been to Sedona, AZ and it is absolutely gorgeous! Then drove to the Grand Canyon. Fi and I will probably go back on our 1st year anniversary. It is where we went on our very first real vacation together (went Jan 2002).
In July...North/South Carolina, Puerto Rico, Caribbean, Mexico, canada (they should be fairly american friendly).

Re: Domestic Honeymoons, not Hawaii
Been to Florida Keys, good for one day at most, not much to do there. Vegas, a week is WAY too long, plus it's not really 'romantic,' fun place though! I've been there four times.
I like the Napa Valley idea and Arizona's good too. My hubby & I went to Cape Cod for a few days & stayed at a REALLY romantic B&B, rode bikes by the water in Chatham, went shoppingin P-Town, it was such a romantic place. We also spent a few days in Rhode Island at another B&B in which we had our own fireplace in our bedroom, our own jacuzzi and they delivered our b'fast by picnic basket every morning, it was perfect! Then we took two weeks in Belize which was our 'official' honeymoon.

Re: Domestic Honeymoons, not Hawaii
We're thinking about cancelling Italy due to all the political stuff right now. I'm just too scared to be in Europe with the threat of war and government travel advisories. But I'm really torn because I really wanted to see Italy. We really don't know what to do.
Anyway, thank you all so much for the ideas. I'm leaning towards California, but I guess I should ask FH what he wants too, right? LOL I'll let you all know what we end up deciding.

Re: Domestic Honeymoons, not Hawaii
Yeah, I was a little worried about all that, but FH and I spoke and decided we are not going to put our dreams on hold for this stupid war! We also don't think the political ramifications will occur in Italy...it's not like we're going to be in Turkey or somewhere. And, heck, if it's our time, then I guess it's our time, right? Not to be morbid, but at least I'd go happy. Doesn't mean we're not still a little trepidatious but we've been dreaming and planning this for so long that we'd be heartbroken to allow this Iraq nonsense to ruin our plans.
(Can you tell how NOT in favor of war I am??)

How about Little Palm Island in Florida...it is supposed to be beautiful & very exclusive. Otherwise, laguna Nigel in California is unbelievably beautiful (near San Diego) or like others have said, rent a car and hit the Pacific Coast Highway and stop in carmel, Napa, The Hearst Castle. There are beautifl hotel near Big Sur like Post ranch Inn etc.
