Does anyone know if a DP in New York State needs to be invalidated before a marriage can be performed?

I believe that as soon as you have a marriage certificate the Domestic Partnership is no longer valid.

That's a good question. I don't think you need to do anything. A marriage licence should override any DP documentation.
