Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence

I am watching the Oprah show and they are discussing Domestic Violence.

I though of a relationship I was in right b4 I met DH and how hard it was to break up with him cause I thought he would kill me. It was very bad.

What prompted me to think of this, was (one of many incidents) that one night I was out with his family celebrating at a retirement dinner for his mother.
I did not dance with him during the first song, but did dance with his sister and SIL later on in the night. He pulled me off the dance floor by my arm and screamed so loud he could be heard over the DJ.
The next morning I awoke to bruises all over my arm, and when I asked him why he flipped, he said he was jealous, that I was spending time with his sister.

Anyway one of the statistics the DV expert rattled off was the number one cause of death for pregnant women, is murder, thru domestic violence. Due to jealousy, of the baby.

It just made me think how had I not found my DH I may have been a statistic.

I dont mean to be all sad and a downer, I just wanted to say how grateful I am that I got out alive.
My heart goes out to all women who are in this place, may you have the strength and the support to get out, and to those of you who have found the strength to leave, you have my admiration and respect!!

Re: Domestic Violence

I was in an abusive relationship. He got violent when he drank or did drugs or when he didn't get his way. He would terrorize me when all I wanted to do was leave and go home. He would accuse me of cheating when he was the one who cheated. It took me 5 years to realize I needed something better....it was cut and dry when he finally said to me to make a decision because there was some girl in his AA group that wanted a commitment from him....buh bye!! IT was very hard to do and very hard to tell my family but I am glad I did it.

Thank you ladies for sharing your stories
I'm sure it helps for anyone in this situation to know they are not alone and that they CAN get out and have a chance at real happiness.

You are very courageous women

I saw the show, too. I was shocked that the #1 cause of death in pregnant women is murder! That's disgusting.

The sad thing is that sometimes these women are in such denial, no matter what you say to them, they will defend the creep who is abusing them. It's unfortunate, but it seems like all women who are in an abusive relationship end up learning for themselves the hard way.

I know I did. Thankfully I was one of the lucky ones who saw the light before it got very bad. My situation was controlling, name-calling, jealousy and occasional shoving. When I watched the show today, I counted my blessings that I got out before it worsened.
