Dominican Republic

Anyone familiar with it? We just booked our honeymoon at Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace and are trying to find the closest airport. The one in our timeshare book say 60 miles away and I know there has GOT to be a closer one...

Re: Dominican Republic

If I am not mistaken this property is close or next to Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus that we went to this past April... we flew into La Romana Airport and I would recommend using this airport rather than in Punta Cana because Punta Cana is kinda far away...

It's not a good idea to rent a car for anyone who doesn't know they're way around the island. I've been there maaaaaaaaaaaaany times, and I still wouldn't rent a car. The streets aren't necessarily dangerous, it's the other drivers ~ worse than NYC's yellow cabs. Also, the streets aren't easy to get to, like NY. You honestly would have maaaaaaaaany turns & twists before you get there.

Re: Dominican Republic

Ok thanks. And with my sense of direction. I think I'll call the resort and ask them the best airport to fly in to. Everyone is telling me how dangerous it is!!!!!!!!!

I just wante dto say congratulations. My FH and I went to Boca Chica (about an hour from Santo Domingo) a couple of years ago and LOVED it. The DR is so pretty! You will have a wonderful time.

Re: Dominican Republic

Thanks, we can't wait to go. With the all inclusive package deal, it looks as if we won't have to lift a finger! We have to leave the morning after our wedding, but that is no biggie except that I HATE packing early...but I'll make an exception!

Re: Dominican Republic

It's not dangerous. It's just that like any place, if you don't know where you are going, you might end up getting lost and you wouldn't want that. And yes, they drive worst than the yellow cabs here so you don't need the extra stress. They are very friendly and hospitable people. You'd definitely enjoy yourself there. I've been to many resorts and always have the best time ever. The rum is unbelievable good and they have Sangria which I love. Tons of fun there. We had gone and rented cars but I've gone with people that know the island and have been there before and we had gone to different resorts if we stayed for 2 weeks. Get ready to party, relax if that's what you want to do. You will have a Great Time !!!!

ETA>>You might want to arrange with the resort/hotel to come and pick you up. They usually do that for free. I've done that in the past.

Re: Dominican Republic

Being a native of DR, I don't even drive over there. We have a driver (thanks to my grandparents). I suggest you get a shuttle provided by your hotel. They should have it.

TP329

The hotel your staying at is located in Bayahibe Dominican Republic and the nearest airport is La Romana (LRM) which is 17 miles to the hotel...Punta Cana is 60 miles away and Santo Domingo is 70 miles away...you can call Wyndham reservations or the hotel direct at 809-686-5658....don't rent a car all of my friends from DR told me it is too dangerous (we cancelled our care rental)...we're honeymooning there also but in Puerta Plata..good luck
