Donating Wedding Flowers??

I was just reading about brides donating their centerpieces and flowers to hospitals or senior citizen homes - has anyone done that or planning to do that? Would love to do this just not sure how.
Thanks.

I want to donate whatever is leftover to a local hospice and all the leftover books to charity (our table numbers are books) I am going to do some research into this and will let you know!

I don't know about the flowers, but my parents usually donate left over food from Temple functions to Island Harvest

Re: Donating Wedding Flowers??

I just googled and found a nursing and rehabilitation center near my RH and they are more than happy to take centerpieces and flowers. What they said is that when it gets closer to the wedding date, they'll put me in touch with the supervisor on duty that night and arrange a drop off.

Alex - I have info for Riverhead Care Center. I'll shoot you a note with the number of the lady that I just spoke with.

I planned on doing the same thing, but then our guests took home the CPs, which is also fine with me. Just make sure that your guests know they can't take them home if you are planning on donating them!

Be careful if you want to donate leftover food from your RH.

It was one of my questions on our list when we went looking because I really wanted to donate to Island Harvest and not waste the food.

One place told me no, even if Island Harvest came and did the pick up, which they do. They told me it was a liability for them and that it would still mean his staff would have to box everything up which meant more work. Needless to say we didn't choose that location, went with a sister location and don't have any trouble. Go figure.

As for centerpieces I know nursing homes usually take flowers that are leftover from funerals so I wouldn't see why this would be any different.

The church flowers will donated to the church for their altar, all centerpieces will be won by a guest at each table. The winner will be the guest whose birthday is close to our wedding date

I just went through this with my catering hall, the hall gets audited by the board of health to make sure that all leftover food is thrown away due to health and safety reasons. My RH was not aware of the NY state and federal Good Samaritan Law that takes away that liability if a food pantry type service that is certified comes and gets the food instead. I contacted Island Harvest and they are working all the details out with my RH.
