donation favors

donation favors

I plan on doing a donation favor for cancer. my grandfather recently passed away and he started getting sick from cancer. I thought this would be very nice and I personally don't need anymore heart measuring spoons or wine stoppers so I thought maybe some other people felt the same way. But Im just afraid that some people might be mad that they aren't getting something to bring home. what do you think?

Re: donation favors

you don't need to do anything on top of the donation!

Re: donation favors

We are making a donation and are giving people a few hershey kisses, just so they 'get' something.

Personally I think a donation is the best thing to 'give', and we are thinking that as well. In talking to many different people though, I was amazed to hear how many people think differently Oh well, you can't please them all! Just do what you feel is best

i think donations are the best way to go.. alot of people dont like getting just little chachci (sp!) stuff, if you dont want to do the scrolls, since not everyone takes them home anyway, you can make a nice frame with a small inscription on it from you and DH and place it near the place card table. that way everyone has to see it, and they know they will not be getting favors

I think the donation is great. It hold special meaning to you and your guests will appreciate it. We're doing on in memory of FH's mom and will give everyone a scroll and a small pouch with jordan almonds. But, I don't think anything in addition to scroll is necessary.

Re: donation favors

we're going to make a donation and then have a sign up on the placecard table telling our guests about the donation.

IMHO there's no need to an additional favor when u'll be spending money on the donation.

IMO, I don't think you need anything else besides the donation & the scrolls telling your guests what you did! Doing a donation I believe is one of the most unselfish way to spend your money for a 'wedding item'

FH & I are doing two donations, one to the National Parkinsons foundation in memory of my grandma & the other to the American Diabetes in memory of my grandfather! We also opted to do a little box filled with dove chocolate to attach the scrolls to as a little more of a personal 'thank you!'

Re: donation favors

we are giving a donation to the susan g komen breast cancer foundation , and we got the breast cancer awareness ribbon magnets for the cars as a 'gift' for the guests as well... but I do not think it is necessary to have a gift on top of the donation...

I think the donations are so nice my FH and I are doing them in honor of my father. Personally I agree with you I really don't want any more favors

Re: donation favors

We're doing donation favors and most likely just having the scrolls. My mother cried when I told her that's what I was doing so I'm sure the guest will appreciate it!

Re: donation favors

Just got back from a wedding actually. They put a frame on the placecard table about the donation and that was it, no scrolls. Everyone thought it was a great idea because it was in honor of a family member. I wouldn't even do the scrolls if I were you.

We've 'borrowed' an idea from another LIW bride, and will be giving out LiveStrong bracelets in recognition of our donation.

Re: donation favors

We made two donations (one to American Cancer Scoiety and another to the American Heart Association). They were in memory of my parents. Instead of a scroll, I made book marks that were on each place setting. This was a huge debate between myself and my MIL. In the end, I am glad I stuck to my original idea of having only the donations -- I did not want anything to overshadow the fact that we were remembering my parents. We got a really nice response from everyone. I told my DH that if someone said, 'We went to this wedding and all we got was this stupid bookmark remembering the deceased parents of the bride.' I wouldn't care about them...
Does that make sense?

Oh... I'll try to find a picture of the place settings :)

I am doing this too. I will be given out truffles in a box with a tag that says 'In lieu of traditional favors.....'

Re: donation favors

I think the idea is great (I was thinking of doing the same for a breast cancer org.) but it was brought to my attention that it could be a little depressing. I saw that point, but I still think its a much better way to spend your 'favor' $$$.
