so we have decided to give a donation to Nassau University Medical Center instead of giving out favors at our wedding. (my fiance was in a near-fatal accident at work almost 4 yrs ago & NUMC is where they flew him to to have emergency brain surgery, etc, etc... he is around today bc of the outstanding job they did over there so we want to thank them!)
now, i'm wondering...how much of a donation should be give them? I was thinking around $300? is that cheap? i'm clueless!
Someone HELPPPPP!!!

Re: Donation instead of favors...
personally i think donations are a great idea! and the best part is theyre grateful for whatever they get!
im donated to breast cancer and had the scrolls printed out. im donating $400. i averaged $2.50 per couple as if i were giving favors.
HTH!

That's really cool of you guys
I don't know the official etiquette, but I'd probably donate what I would have spent on favors. Ex: 125 favors x $3 each for a $375 donation. Depending on how many favors you would have ordered (1 per couple I'd assume) that # might be slightly more or less. HTH!

We did a donation to St. Judes and gave $3.00 per person and also lavender cancer bracelets.

We're donating to St Judes too and will probably give $3pp. I'd love to give more though if we are able
$300 is a generous gift, not cheap at all

Re: Donation instead of favors...
we're making a donation to the Susan G. Komen foundatio in honor of FH's mother who passed away from Cancer...
I was going to make a donation in the amount we WOULD have paid for favors (around 200-300) but I'm thinking we may do a 500 dollar donation...

We gave around $2 pp, but do what you can....it is the thought that counts with something like that.

I agree..FH & I are doing donation along with M&M's - give what you can and dont worry about the amount factor. They will be grateful no matter what you decide to donate!

I'm doing this too. How are you letting guests know you did this?

Re: Donation instead of favors...
We did 10% of everything we received. WE did NOT mention it to our guests....I feel that if you give a donation, it should be out of your own goodness.....not looking for recognition for yourself. That's just my opinion though.

well, obviously its out of the goodness of everyone's heart.... Personally we wanted to honor FH's mother and involve her in our wedding since she cant be there with us.. Who said they were doing it for recognition?!?
