donations as favors

im considering giving a donation to a cancer society in lieu of a favor because i lost my mother to cancer when i was young. has anyone done this? i was wondering if any of the socieites give things for their donations. someone told me that one of the cancer societys gave a bookmark with the couple's name. i just wanted to know if someone could point me in a good direction.

thanks.

Re: donations as favors

Most of the donation 'favors' I have seen are noted with a scroll saying something like ' a donation in your name has been made to....'
Or you can mention it in the program or the menus but my favorite way of handling is to NOT mention it at all.

Re: donations as favors

I just read about these two sites this morning marriedforgood.com might help you and at Idofoundation.org If you register at Linens and Things or JC Penney they give a percentage of the amount your guests spend on gifts for you to charity at no cost to you or them. I think that is a cool idea if you were planning on registering at one of those places.

We're donating

to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org). You can contact them re: wedding donations by calling 212-237-3854.

They will produce a page for you to roll up and give to wedding guests. We plan on tying the scrolls up with ribbons and attaching a few Jordan almonds in an organza bag to it all.

Hope this helps!
