So, I want to hear some great shower ideas; Donna wants to be surprised!!! You don't have to suggest specific places, since we're in Lancaster, just ideas. Also, Donna and Josh really need cash and not stuff for shower gifts. How can I delicately let shower guests know? Thanks a bazillion, girls!!!!!!!! Think hard now!!!! So far, I know Donna hasn't really chosen a theme, but she wants to use in her wedding, beta fish in vases of flowers, the color, burgundy, and she's mentioned lilies, but I don't know what kind; Perhaps she was thinking of the peace lilies in the vases. Also, she loved the teaparty food we had for Debi, but the teaplace only accommodates 20 people, and it was a tight fit. Mary MOB

What are some things that she's into?? I think the shower should ALL about her...find something she loves and just make a theme out of it if you can...
I'll try to help you out if you tell me a little about her...

well did they have an engagement party? i know that people will give money for that, so it may help....
and i dont think there really is a way to tell the guests that they should give cash without looking tacky..do they live together? if they dont, then you can have them register for things they would be spending money on, and not the extras...
and you could do a tiffany's blue theme, complete with 'diamonds' on the table and little blue boxes with favors.

I am the kind of person who doesn't want the typical shower with the games and everything so I think mine is going to be more of a cocktail party than shower.....more drinking than games

Maybe you can do a tropical theme with fish in a bowl as a centerpiece. I would tell Donna to register very little on her registrly so people may get the idea just to give money instead.

For the money issue.. here is your solution.. HONEYMOONWISHES.COM I used them for my registry and they are amazing!! You sign up on their website for things such as airfare, dinners, hotel nights, massages, jet skiing, surfing lessons, drinks...etc. Guests think they are purchasing those actual items for you however, in the end honeymoonwishes.com sends you a check that you cash and do whatever you want with it!! They charge a 7% service fee that you can choose to either have your guests pay or the B & G can have it deducted from their final check. She can request payouts whenever she wants also. It was the perfect solution for us since we are from Florida and my shower was on Long Island, there were no gifts to have to lug back and forth and my guests seemed to think it was a great idea.. no one knew that I was actually getting check to spend on whatever I'd like. We used the money for our 3rd payment to the RH!!!! FM me if you have any questions!

Hi Donna's mom. I had found this on another page...Please just inform Donna about this before she decides to have beta as centerpieces.
'I just want to give a warning, I have seen this done and helped out a wedding where it was done. You have to make sure that each of the centerpiece bowls has water that has gotten to room temperature, otherwise when you drop the fish in, you will have a lot of dead fish from the shock of water change. And inevitably, fish will die, this wedding had quite a few just because fish can die so quickly. So be prepared for that and have a few backup fish. Also have a plan for what to do with the fish that people don't want to take home, the wedding I helped with had the same intention and only a few people took them home, the rest we had to try to get rid of over a long period of time.'
I thought this was such a cute idea at first...but then when I read warnings about how most fish will die b/c of shock from the change in environment and water temperature, I decided it wasn't a good idea. (My dad was a biology teacher...He would have been devasted if all those fish died!!!)

I found this cute poem... my brother basically did this when he got married but he got married abroad and wasn't going to bring toaster ovens back to the US with him. LOL
Most things we need we've already got, And in our home we can't fit a lot! A gift of money is asked of you And once we've replaced the old with the new, We can look back and say it was thanks to you!

I found this on another site:
1. For my invitations I included a note inside the envelope which reads: As the bride and groom have already built a household over several years, .......(my name) and .....(fiance's name) would be delighted to receive a contribution towards their honeymoon in lieu of gifts. Please contact..... (travel agent) to arrange for your donation towards the bride and groom's romantic honeymoon.
2. one wedding I went to they wrote something like this on their invites: A note about gifts; The bride and groom don't need many things but they do need a honeymoon, a gift of money would be appreciated.
3. I really don't think there is a polite way to word this. If you really want to spread the word, I would request a family member spread the word quietly. Good luck!

Don't limit yourself to whatever theme her wedding will be. Her shower doesn't have to match her wedding. When you find somethings she likes, you can do them. The last shower I went to was at a mexican restaurant. Margarita glasses, funky bright colored centerpieces, little funny mexican faces that when you squeezed them their eyes bulged out. It was bright and light and fun.
The shower can be whatever you would like it to be. Don't feel restricted.

Have her register at BB&B and whatever she gets and wants to keep she can, whatever she gets and really can do without, she can return and as long as its on her registry they will give her cash back!

I know this may sound crazy what if you did her bridal shower at a beach. You could get a nice open tent .

It could be really fun and different. You can do a signature drink, make her favorite dishes and open presents!!!
