DonorsChoose.com for Donations to Schools
There is a great website called DonorsChoose.com which allows teachers who work in low income schools to request materials that may be needed in their school to teach their students.
For example, I am a kindergarten teacher in a low income school in Brooklyn. Many of my students have been diagnosed with speech/language impairments. I went on DonorsChoose and requested Fairy Tale puppets to help my students expand their language abilities. These puppets were donated to my students by a very generous individual.
Those who choose to make a donation can decide on which proposals they would like to donate to. They can search neighborhood schools and fund proposals based on any criteria, including different subjects and types of resources. These resources may include anything from materials for the classroom, a trip, or even special visitors to the school. Proposals can range in price starting at under $100.
It is a wonderful website that my students have truly benefited from.
Teachers should visit the website to see if your school can be, or already is, part of this wonderful charity. Those who wish to donate can also find all the information at the link below
Thanks
