Don't be mad. I need your help and no one is answering me

As you know I am off next week. As you also may know I have done NOTHING about changing my name.

WHAT THE PHUCQ is the process. Where do I need to go first>? What do I need to bring with me.
I plan on doing this all in Manhattan. Jim said if my last name isn't changed by Febuary 1st, no sushi for a month

actually - I did bank & credit cards first.

1. It's spelled PHUQUE
2. GO to the SS office, there's one on 2nd Ave and 41st Street
3. Bring your marriage license, your birth certificate and your passport. It doesn't hurt to have all that ammo
4. Wait on line
5. Wait on line some more
6. Speak to rude lady behind window
7. Wish you never had to change your name

ok seriously:
1-go to your local social security office-with your old social security card an marriage license-you should get it in the mail within 1 week

2-go to dmv w/marriage license and look perdy bc they are takin a pic. i was in dmv for 8 minutes-i timed it.


this is it!

Here's what I did:

Made multiple copies of my marriage license
Went to the bank first, had them change the account/debit card/ordered checks. Took all of 15 minutes. Everything was in the mail a week later.
Took a day off of work and went to DMV. Make sure you look cute, because they take a new picture.
Went to Social Security. Took about 30 minutes.
Went home and called all the other credit cards. That took a while. They all try to get you to buy $hit as long as you're on the phone.

I still haven't done my passport. You need two new pictures, and I think they take the original marriage license. So make sure you have copies.

First of all you need to change your SS first and you can do that in the main SS office in Brooklyn (3 stops on the 2 or 3) and its a 10 minute process.

Second, go to the DMV on 34th Street, thats like a 10 minute process as well...I did it all during my lunch hour and it was fast and smooth.

Ugh, don't go to SS on 48th and 8th. In the 2.5 hours I sat there, I had to move my chair 3 times because of the scary people around me. I hope I NEVER have to return to that horrible place again. Def go to the one on the east side.

SS is the only thing I've done so far.

I haven't done mine yet either and I have been married since July. SS Office needs to have late hours or an office in Smithtown.

Good point about taking a new picture. No one told me this and I look like azz in my new picture. I did DMV first and a few days later went to SS.

When I changed my name at my bank, I did it alone. DH was not present. All I did was show a copy of my marriage license.

My employer wouldn't change my paycheck/benefits into my new name until my SS had been changed - I faxed them a copy.

Also, when going to DMV, decide if you are changing just your license or your registration too. If you're doing regi, you need to have your title with you (if it's on a loan/lease) too. And then get in touch with your loaner/lesee to get another title too, I think?

But if you do regi, you'll probably need to change your car insurance too. Which I chose not to do because I don't want my ins co knowing about my DH. He's an inexperienced driver and sure to raise my rates if they find out about him.

I finally got a pic I liked a short while ago. I don't want to risk going downhill again!!
