Don't know what to do?

Don't know what to do?

My mom passed away two years ago. Actually Monday will be her birthday . I wanted to have a moment of silence at the reception for her and have the DJ play this special song by Laura Pausini. Do you think that will be to sad? or inappropriate? I just love my mom so much and I will miss her soooo much on this day. I am already doing a special thing for her at the ceremony with the priest.

HOnestly I think it may be a little sad-maybe you could have the DJ play that song. You will know what it is for

I was thinking on dancing to the song with my Father. Would that be a little better?

MUCH better! I think it would just be too sad and too hard to get the dancing and rejoycing back after that. I think dancing to it with your dad would be very sweet. Do you have a brother you could dance to it with maybe so you have that song for you your bro and your mom and another song just for you and dad?

i think doing a dance to the song and have the DJ say something is fine...this is your wedding day! I know if i was in your shoes id totally do something!! Everyone knows its going to be a bitter sweet day and they all will be understanding to whatever tribute you do!!!! I say go for it!!!

That is a great idea. I have two brothers. I will ask for one of them to dance to it with me.

Thx.

If you are set on this, do it. This is your day and your mother's memory!! I am finding alot of unique ways to incorporate the memory of my father into our wedding/reception.

Can you maybe put together a slideshow of pictures to run while you play the song. It may still be sad of course, but it will give guests something to look at, and they will remember the pictures w/ joy too perhaps.

GL! And Im sorry for your loss.

I don't think it will be inappropriate at all...

so what if its sad for the other people? you lost your mother!

FH just lost his mother and he has the same concerns you are having about doing something for her, but I tell him - isn't she worth that? isn't she worth our tears for a few minutes? we will still enjoy the rest of the day because she would have wanted us too...

Re: Don't know what to do?

First, I want to say I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. I also lost my mother a couple years ago, so i know how it feels to be going through all the planning and everything without her phyically there. Sometimes I do cry about it. If you ever need anyone to talk to you can FM me..

Honestly, I think it might not be a good idea to have a moment of silence during the reception for a couple reasons...
#1 - people will be drinking and when you drink and get sad, sometimes it is hard to get out of that sad mood..
#2 - You, even if you are not drinking, might not be able to stop crying. I know when I get upset about my mom sometimes, I cry so hard I start to hyperventalate..you don't want that at your wedding.
#3 - And I think the most important.. It sounds like you and your mother loved each other ALOT. I'm sure she would want you to be happier than anything on your wedding day. I'm sure she knows that you miss her and that you wish she was there in person..you don't need to have a moment of silence for that. She will always be with you...I think if she knew you were upset on your wedding day because of her, it would make her upset too...

I also felt the need to do 'something' for my mom, we bought a memorial vase that we are going to fill with flowers the day of at the church, and then I am always going to keep putting flowers in them, for my angel mom. We are also having a prayer said at the church, I'm sure some people, including myself will cry..buy lots of people usually cry at the church ceremony anyway...

Sorry so long, and I hope this helped a little, FM me if you ever need to talk.
