Don't know where to start

Hi everyone - new here I just got engaged less than 2 weeks ago and my head is spinning already. I have no clue where to start so I figured I would tell you some of the things my fiance and I would like and see is anyone has any ideas.

We don't want to break the bank
Probably a winter wedding (I'm thinking Feb 2012)
A small wedding 80 people or so
I would ideally like to have it in a restaurant but I can't seem to find reasonable ones (less than 100 bucks pp)
Um and we are not big dancers - I feel like I want a great sit down dinner with some soft acoustic musicians
Does not have to be on Long Island - would love Queens or even Brooklyn

Ugh - I am so overwhelmed any help or leads would be appreciated.

first off, welcome and congratulations. Having a winter wedding is a great idea.FH and I are so happy that we decided to get married in February. First you should ENJOY being engaged since its so new. The planning can wait a few weeks. You can get some great prices on wedding venues that cost waaaay under $100 with tax. and grat. for a February wedding, My best advice is to make a guest list to see how many people you are really looking at. FH and I also wanted to keep it under 100, but we just couldn't. We are booked at Fox Hollow and they gave us a excellent price, but you do have to guarantee 100 for a Saturday (not sure about other days). FM if you would like more info. There are so many places out there that can meet your needs for a winter wedding. Venues need to keep their staff employed so that is why they lower the plate price so much during the off season. Also, with vendor booking is less stressful and a little cheaper because they need the business so they work with you too. Good luck

Pick up a few magazines or check out the venue guides online to see which reception halls/restaurants would be in your price range. Start sending some emails and calling around. Set up some apointments with different places. Do you plan on getting married in a church? You should definitely look into availabilities there before setting a date at a venue. I checked out different venues first to see which ones I liked were available which days and then went to my church with my preferred date. Luckily they were available! Everything just falls into place then. Book the most time sensitive vendors next ie. band, photographers, etc. Things like flowers don't have to be taken care of immediately b/c florists can work on more than one wedding on one day. I think you will have an easier time than you think finding a venue!!

Re: Don't know where to start

Congrats and welcome. I am also having a small wedding 100 people or less. Here are places that give me mins of 100 or less

Westbury Manor (60 min for Saturday night) small room upstairs. I love it because it is very intimate. My only issue I think the dance floor may be a tad small but we will make it work.

Swan Club
Coral House
Jericho Terrace (I didn't see them but I was told via phone)
Douglaston Manor (Queens)

Try the Miller Place Inn, they offer a great package, and do small weddings also.

Congrats!!!

I too would recommend the Fox Hollow... being a Fox Hollow bride.

But really.. what feel are you going for?

Re: Don't know where to start

My sister got married at Fox Hollow so that's a no go for me.

I honestly don't really want to get married in a catering hall but I think I am going to have no choice. I really want a smallish restaurant that we can have a small 3 piece band (we know of one we want/like) with my close friends and family. Something where maybe we're at 2 or 3 long communal tables with possibly family style dining.

We would have to have the reception at the place as well. We are both Jewish but not very religious and would not want to get married in temple.

Re: Don't know where to start

We had our e-party at Tutto Pazzo in Huntington and had about 65 people, but they can accomodate more than that...and it was something like $65pp I believe. If you like italian food that may be a restaurant option for you! Or Restaurant Joanina in Huntington village also does parties for less than $100pp (not sure of the exact price though!)! I know PLENTY of restaurants have private rooms that can accomodate your number and are less than $100 you just need to look around a bit :) HTH!
