Don't let the Bridal Industry take advantage of you....I didn't!!!

Don't let the Bridal Industry take advantage of you....I didn't!!!

So I went to finalize the order for the bridesmaid dresses last night, had to bring in the measurements of one of my OOT BMs. Now, keep in mind that earlier in the day, I called the shop and asked them to fax me the size chart so I could figure out her size, b/c I was just going to call back with her size, but decided to go in to the store instead.

I received the fax, figured out the size and saw a notation on the bottom that their was a $20 charge for size 18, 20, 22, 24 and a $30 charge for size 26, 28. I was prepared to pay the extra $20 b/c the BM required a 20. Fine.

I go to the shop, happen to work with the same salesgirl who wrote up the orders 2 weeks ago. I tell her why I am there; she pulls my order, and made note of the measurements and pulls out the size chart. ** “Discreetly” holding it below the counter so I can’t see** I explain that I received a fax earlier of the size chart and knew the size needing to be ordered was a 20. The girl calls over one of the measure takers, and confirms on the size. Then writes “20” on the order form and tells me it’s going to be $40 for the larger size.
Hello?!?! I then say I was sure the size chart I had said $20. They start in with the prices went up this year…Hi, it’s JULY! I received a fax TODAY! Don’t think the girl faxed a size chart from LAST YEAR! I nicely say, “I could be wrong, but I am sure it was only $20.” I did not have the fax with me b/c I received it at work and forgot to grab it when I left work. Then the salesgirl and measure taker go in the back, while another lady up front tells me “I think the $20 is for extra length” Now, not for nothing, I can read and would NOT confuse “Additional Charge for Size 18, 20,…” with “Additional Charge for Length (5”)…” ESPECIALLY considering this BM is 5’2” if that!!!!

The salesgirl comes back and says they’ll “give it to me” for $20.

I get into work this morning, and you know the first thing I did was look at the fax….it says (and I quote)…

“Additional charge for sizes 18, 20, 22, 24………………………$20.00”

There is NO where on the fax that has an additional charge of $40.

AND, when the salesgirl walked into the back I could see a little of the chart she was looking at and it had the SAME writing as on my fax, “NEW CHART” written in sharpie marker on top!

MORAL: STAND UP when you KNOW you’re right!!!!! Even though this was $20, it’s the principle that they tried to pull one over on me!!! I have been happy with this salon and staff, but this was icky!

Thanks for listening!! And please…DON’T let people take advantage of you!!!

oh, yes, that's why I wouldn't order anything from Macy's. I wanted a Bill Levkoff Bridesmaid dress.

They gave me a chart that had pics of all the Bill BM dresses.

Under each dress, they crossed off the price in permanent black marker. But, when I tilted it to the side, the printing from the original prices reflected in the light.

So, back in 2003, the Manufacturer's price for the Bill gowns was only $98

Macy's had them tagged at $250. Then, they charged me to do a measurment since I wasn't ordering gowns at the time of the measurment. They LIED about my size 2 BM's hip size- said she had 42 inch hips, which would mean she'd need a size 14 BM dress.

I called them up FURIOUS and made them mail me a check for the refund on the sizing fee that I paid.

And, I ordered the BM dresses from weddingexpressions.com for $134 each. With free shipping!

Good for you!

It may only be $20, but it all adds up!! Think about how happy you would be if you found $20 on the floor or if someone treated you to a $20 lunch!!

You go girl!

I would have called and said that I was going to fax the sheet that they sent you. Just to PROVE your point, that they are not 'GIVING' it to you for that price. Like they are doing you a favor.

This did not cross my mind b/c I have had no problems up until now. I did make sure that each girls receipt had the alterations cap written on it and they were all the same!

Good for you! Patken did something similar to me. I came in with a coupon they had for a free 20x20 and 200 dollars off. She took it from me and said that she was already giving me the 20x20 and ripped it up. I then realized that she never gave me the 200 off and she wouldn't budge at the end. I though it was kinda shady. I liked their work a lot but am now doubting if I should hand thousand of dollars to shady people.

good for you! this is why I hate must bridal stores. They will try to rob you blind! I wonder how many brides were taken advantage of. The whole industry is a scam! Also be careful too about the sizing. Bridal stores LOVE to switch size tags. If your a size 8 they'll put that tag in a dress thats a size 4, and a size 0 tag on a size 2. Forcing you to pay extra for alterations!
