a co-pilot for air France was arrested last night (it was even on the news) when he said at the checkpoints when he had to be scanned because he kept beeping 'I have a bomb in my shoe' and boom Port Authority came over and slapped the cuffs on him. The entire flight had to be cancelled.
So dont even joke about it. If you get called over to be searched and say oh come on what do you think I have a bomb you will be arrested.
Even if you say in the airport to someone 'hey you the bomb' all they hear is bomb and thats it you have earned yourself a lovely set of handcuffs.
So when in the airport, just get searched and move on. Dont talk to the agents, dont make jokes, just get search and head to your gate.

chip, this past spring an Irish sports team came over to the Bronx to play a team here. The day that they were leaving one of the irishmen said 'don't worry I don't have a bomb' when they checked his bag. Well, he was arrested, checked all over and all his bags, then when they realized he was joking, he sent him home but he has to return (or might have already) to face a judge for his 'joke'. I don't know what type of crime it is ie: misdemeanor or what, but i doubt he'll get jail time or anything like that. Probably wont let him back in the country for some years. But you can;t say ANYTHING about bombs, knives, guns, anything in any airport - because they take all comments seriously!

Yeah I know my Grandma heard this on the news a while ago. No one got arrested when my grandma heard it but the news said to not even say it as a joke b/c they will take you seriously!

ThreeTwenty - that was the FIRST thing I thought of when I saw the subject of the post - Meet the Parents!!!!!!!
in san diego they've had the no joke signs posted for 1 1/2 years...and of course I flew stand by and they had to check my carry-on (since I was last minute) and I said...yes I'm a trouble maker...I immediately said sorry and the guy said that I was lucky I had him, since others would have reported me...but I think after going through my bag and only finding undies and bathing suits...he knew there was nothing to worry about...
