FH and I went to Dortoni for our cake tasting yesterday and I have to say we were floored! First off, FH and I were loving all the regular cakes and wedding cakes they had displayed all over the store. They looked so amazingly delicious. I already told FH we have to go back to get the rainbow cookie cake. I wanted it BAD.
So I chose 4 flavors of fillings I wanted to try- Vanilla Creme, Cannoli Creme, Raspberry Mousse, and Chocolate Ganache. I wasn't too crazy about the Cannoli creme and the vanilla creme was good, but so ordinary. FH HOUSED the raspberry mousse and chocolate ganache- they were slamming! We had the very little left over wrapped up and it was a fight for it last night at home. LOL! Anyway, chose vanilla cake with chocolate ganache, raspberry mousse, and buttercream on the outside.
I did ask about doing a custom design and they said that it really depends on Jericho Terrace and how intricate the design was. I showed him a picture and he said it probably wouldn't be any extra. However, when I went to Jericho Terrace I was pleased to find that they had a few more options in their book than in the book they give you. So I chose a very simple swirly pattern that was reminiscent of the custom design I wanted anyway. But there was definitely no flat fee for a custom design!
Anyway, anyone who is getting their cake from Dortoni's is SOOOOOOO lucky. It was flipping delicious!!!

We are also getting our wedding cake from them - so excited!!
And for our e-party we had it a domenico's right next door so all their cakes/cookies/desserts come from Dortoni's - it was delicious!!

My family always orders cakes and whatnot from there (for bdays) ... we LOVE them ... when FH and I found out that WCC cakes are from there, we were in heaven too
i'm glad your cake tasting experience was awesome and that you'll get the cake of your dreams for no additional fee

i have a question though..maybe u can answer?
im getting a custom cake topper (initial swarovski)... do i meet with JT FIRST? or can i go to Dortoni first? i need to know how many inches the cake topper shoudl be. and im also doing trimmign around the cake.. i dont knwo if i can just go to dortoni without an appointment/?

I couldn't believe how good it was!! I think this might have been FH's fave part of the entire process! He's so excited for the cake at the wedding now!
But definitely talk to WCC about your custom cake idea!! If it's not too over the top, they should be able to swing it for no extra fee! I know the JT cakes that they had in the book they gave us were very.... dated and ornate and NMS. HTH!

Yeah i'll def do that ... we didn't love the cake options they gave ... all of those designs except for 2 were HIDEOUS lol ... i'll ask WCC when it's menu selection time Thanks

I went to Dortoni first. When I met with Linda at JT she said she didn't even know Dortoni did tastings, but she did ask me about my cake topper, which I had with me so I showed her, and the cake design so I would definitely go to Dortoni first. I'd try to go during the week- I went yesterday and it was still packed- so hopefully you can get a little more time with them. You might even be able to ask them over the phone if they aren't too busy- just tell them I'm expecting x # of people and I want to know how big of a topper I should get or how many tiers that would be or whatnot.

We're expecting between 150-200 people, but my cake topper is... non-traditional. It's a drunk bride and groom, so I'm not help with that.
YIKES! I know my list grew a lot, too. Before we were worried about making the 150 minimum now we're afraid we won't be able to fit the 200 people comfortably in our room. And there's no other rooms available on our date!

Dortoni's is excellent!! My family always gets cake from them. And my wedding cake also comes from them...although it says La Bonne Boulangerie on my contract.

They're not charging extra for the raspaberry and chocolate filling!?!?! That's awesome! I thought that since the cake was included in the package that you would be stuck with boring fillings. Now I'm excited!!!

as far as i know, you can choose any filling flavor you want for no additional charge

I had a really good experience with Dortoni's also!! Everything was delicious!!! We got the chocolate cake w/ vanilla mousse and one tier of red velvet w/ the cream cheese filling. When I went to JT they wanted to verify with the bakery that it wouldn't be an extra charge for the red velvet (I had no idea this was even a possibility) and everything worked out!! Can't wait to taste and see the real cake!!!!
