double standard?

Ok-i don't know about you girls; but i have to 'sneak' LIW here at work AND do any wedding planning on the DL. Can't hardly call vendors or book appointments b/c then if seems like i'm not working and just doing wedding stuff.

BUT I have a co-worker that sits behind me; his family is opening a restaurant. At least twice a day i hear him on the phone; for about an hour discussing menus; websites; e-mail blasts-ALL for the restaurant!!

Maybe guys are just bolder and don't care that other people see them doing non work things?? I could NEVER be on the phone with a vendor talking for an hour about plans & ideas!!

Does your boss know he is doing this? I am one of the fortunate ones that work in an office that does not fire people. I can be on the phone with a vendor with my boss standing next to me and nothing will be said.

Maybe you could 'test the waters' and see what your superiors say if they 'catch' you

Maybe he doesn't care if he gets fired since he'll be working for the restaurant.

Some people just don't care but believe me, the bosses notice.

A girl and I started around the same time in the same department at the same rate. She would be on the phone/internet allll the time and bosses definitely noticed and did not like her and wanted to replace her. She also never recieved anything but a 3% increase and seemed perfectly content knowing everyone thought she was a waste of space!!!

She did eventually get fired when things got tight.
