Just wanted to give everyone a heads up about giving out personal information when looking at reception halls.
We looked at Douglaston Manor over two months ago. We never gave out our real address, but my FI gave out his cell number as contact information. For the past two weeks, he has been getting calls from multiple vendors (that we don't need) who all have told him they got his number from Thomas at the Douglaston Manor. And they all seem to call at the most convenient time, 7 PM DINNER TIME!
My FI called Douglaston Manor to complain to Thomas, and he said that he did this, and does it on a regular basis, and that no one has ever complained when all he is trying to do is 'help' a new bride and groom! We have never received calls from the other TWELVE catering halls or their vendors, and explained to him how unethical we thought it was for him to share our contact information with other people to try and solicit our business.
Just a thing to keep in mind ladies when you are just going to 'look' at these places. We also generated a separate email address on Yahoo that the both of us could check, and that way our personal email accounts would not be filled with wedding info for the rest of our life, and we could cancel the email address when we were done with wedding plans.

That is horrible....I only got these sorts of calls after I signed with my RH and the only ppl that called were the RH recommended vendors and once we told them we weren't interested they left was alone. I hope the calls stop

I went to douglaston manor for a bridal showcase over the summer and was so turned off by them. Not only were the people rude. The place was disgusting. There were dead mice right by the front entrance. I got so grossedout over the whole experience.

Re: Douglaston Manor Unethical Practices
wow!!! I went to the showcase also in September and didn't see any dead mice!!! That sounds like something I would notice (I would hope!).
Thomas is my BM- the only calls I received were from a dj and florist they recommend.....BUT that was after I booked, so it's pretty logical for them to call. When I was just looking I didn't get any calls like that.
I don't really see providing your # to vendors as being unethical (even though they shouldn't be calling your cell phone!)......LIW does the same thing....except usually I get mail not phone calls from LIW vendors.
Sorry you had this experience, but I'm glad to know that I've spoken to other LIW brides who've gotten married there this year (post renovations) and not had issues like this....in fact they had rave reviews.
Happy planning!

uh oh...lets be careful!! I do believe I saw one or two brides who booked this place.... I heard they are going through some major renovations . I do agree that its rude to give out info...but we have to be careful with calling a place disgusting....

To be honest, many halls do this. I'm not sure it's fair to pin it on one hall / BM, though it's obviously your experience they are coming from this place / person.
Many halls have these deals with vendors. Douglaston Manor is not unique in this.

My experience there was the opposite. We fell in love with the place when we first saw it, and most of the renovations were done. I've actually booked my wedding there, because of the bridal expo in Sept. As for the dead mice I didn't see them. The place was immaculate when I was there.
Chris is my BM and I have not heard from any vendors except for the people I gave my info to from the Bridal Expo. Everyone there was pleasant to me. I’m sorry that you didn’t have a good experience with them, but I have heard great things about them already. I have no worries.

Re: Douglaston Manor Unethical Practices
Anytime I sign up for a showcase I put down a made up phone# and different address. When we started looking at RH's it seems my phone was ringing off the hook for 4 months straight. I would never book a vendor that I received a cold call from, just on principle! Rude.
All Douglaston Manor brides, don't worry! There is good and bad to be said about every hall. There's food, I am sure an occassional mouse is not unheard of!!!
Once I found a mouse under my desk at work. Now that's disgusting!!!

Hi Suzanne!! I'm glad we both had the same experience at the expo.....at least I know it wasn't just me who thought that the staff was friendly & everything looked perfect.

Re: Douglaston Manor Unethical Practices
I'm a fellow Douglaston Manor bride too and I have to say of all the places I've been to, it was the nicest and newest (thanks to the renovation and I'm extremely picky). I'm working with Chris and he is so accommodating! I never got any unwanted vendor calls.
The Knot and LIW gave away my information and I got flooded with spam mail from various vendors through them. I never got spam because of my RH.
I went to the Douglaston Manor bridal show too and fell in love with the place all over again. I didnt see any dead mice and if a place like Douglaston Manor that is newly renovated (the kitchen is new too btw) and has dead mice, I hate to know what goes on in the other older RHs.
