FH asked our planner yesterday and she said it is actually not too expensive, so now he wants to do a dove release. (would never expect it from him)
what do you guys think? we are having a short and sweet ceremony, and it is going to be very different so we were thinking of doing it.
too much? cheesy? nice?
please let me know
TIA

What's not so expensive...just curious. I absolutely LOVE butterflies, but my ceromony is inside and I doubt they'll allow it

not sure- I think only a few hundred dollars but I guess it depends on what you need.
maybe you could go outside and instead of doing bubbles or whatever you could do the butterfly toss

Sorry I haven't done or seen any of these and I don't want discourage you in doing either one of these.
I've heard (also on LIW) that sometimes the butterflies are often dead when they are delivered.
And with the doves, if the trainer feeds them too soon they might go 'do-do' on people or if they don't feed them may not be healthy enough to fly.
Try doing a search on LIW and see what comes up.
Sorry I wasn't more helpful

I've heard the horror stories, but have found a really nice and (what seems to be) honest and caring breeder in Florida who I bought my butterflies from. I can't wait to do our release!! Most places only sell Monarchs, but the breeder I found also sells Painted ladies, which are about 1/2 the size of Monarchs.
My biggest concern is the shipping factor. But he assured me that they are not injured as they are packed very well - but we'll see.
I think I'm paying $190 for 1 1/2 dozen butterflies which includes overnight shipping.

Ive also read that butterflies die by the time you want to release them, Im thinking about doing the dove release if we end up doing an outdoor ceremony. But I never heard of the doves pooping on pple before so now thats got me thinking twice about it!
I think both ideas, if all goes well, would look beautiful though!

I went to a wedding where Butteflies were supposed to be released, but they were all dead when we opened the box. I felt horrible for the bride. That is the only time I've ever heard of that happening though.

I went to a wedding where they did the individual butterfly release and half of them were flopping about on the floor. It was not pretty. I've seen other's where they do a box release of butterflies and that seemed to work a little better than the individual release.

I've seen both at a wedding and it is beautiful. But just make sure if you get the butterflies it is warm weather. If it is cold they will not fly. I think it has to be at least 80 degrees for them to fly.

I did a dove release and we thought...as did my guests....that it was amazing! And I got great pics which I still have to scan. I used White Wings NY--Macy. It wasn't too much $$$ but it depends what you want. I think we paid $300.

I hate birds, I think Doves are beautiful, but I just couldn't do it.
I'd be afraid I smash the butterflies by accident.
