downloading music- who do you?

I think right now you cannot get in trouble for downloading. Only if you are 'sharing' the song to a downloader (in otherwords uploading).

The thing about free sites (KazaaLite is one) is that they work so that you can both download and upload. You can close off your shared folder to other downloaders though. However I did this and someome still was able to download something. I stopped the program right away because I don't want them to be able to download from me. It was just a song but I'm scared a hacker will be able to download other things.

I actually only use iTunes now. I'ts $.99 a song.

I think there was another thread like this just in the past couple of days .. and it got me wondering .. the sites that charge the minimal fees .. how extensive is their library of music????

I use Kazaa. Just make sure you delete them from your shared folders or save them somewhere else when you burn it.

Kinda like Coors Lite??

Sorry, I just couldn't resist .. I'm just poking fun at the 'Kazaa Lite' name and the way your line is worded

Kazaa (not kazaa lite) is KNOWN for it's spyware
icky

Kazaa lite is the one they took a kid to court for (of all things)

I admit nothing

ETA: I can suggest however, keep your folder under 1000 files. They used to be going only for the heavy users....er..... abusers (cough)

Now they are trying to get everyday users.

Oddly enough I was one of the folks on the Napster list for trying to keep it alive. Now they email me constantly to rejoin..

I am thinking if downloading is illegal why dont they go after whoever runs the sites (dont really know how it works) not after the people that use it...

Re: downloading music- who do you?

Well, that's what they did when they shut down napster. When it firts cma eout. I LOVED it. I downloaded like crazy. Now I'm over it. it's not worth the potential hassle. I just use iTunes!

Maybe right now there's nothing good .. not sure I'd agree with that 100% .. but there's some good music that has spanned so many generations.

Re: downloading music- who do you?

Right now the music industry wants to go after anyone they can catch doing anything illegal regarding music. This past January I had a collegue who went to the Grammy's (actually he won a Grammy) and this was the talk of the night. The industry could go after the companies, like they did with Napster but many times that gets long, costly and drawn out, if they can go after the little guy sitting at home they have the ability to do a strong-arm lawsuite that the average american will not be able to last against. If YOU chose to steal the music then YOU should be the one punished...that is music industry's mantra this year. The argument about going after the software providers is no different than saying let's close down every store in america that provides gum because young kids are stealing that gum...come on now! That makes no sense!
I am biased since my work is in direct correlation with this industry though and we have felt the effects of illegal downloaded music.
