downtown Brooklyn

I got an interview for Brooklyn Poly Tech as a tutor. My mom is freaking out because she is saying it's an awful area. What is the area really like? She hasn't been over there in years, so I don't really know how she magically knows.

It's in downtown Brooklyn, near the Brooklyn Bridge.

PolyTech is near Jay Street, right? FH is a family court prosecutor over there and I'm pretty sure I see signs for Poly Tech all the time.
If so, it's kinda ghetto over there, but it's so busy during the day since the courts and so many office buildings are over there, there's nothing to worry about. I wouldn't wanna walk around by myself over there at night though, it feels sketchy, but still relatively safe..

Yeah, the residential area immediately by the bridge is quiet and beautiful... but it's a little less quiet and beautiful over by Jay street, haha.. I wouldn't let it prevent me from taking a job opportunity though.

I went to school at City Tech which is right across from Poly Tech. It's a relatively safe area. Nothing to worry about.

I used to go to those Brooklyn Courts...I thought it was a fairly decent area, I never felt unsafe.

The area is not bad at all. You can FM wooshply. She was an 08 bride. She works there and she loves it!!! It's also right across the street from New York City Tech. It's just like working in the city, you'll be fine. GL

heyyyyyy - my alma mater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FM if you have any questions. i was a very involved student, so i know a lot of the people there.

the area is fine! its 2 blocks away from montague street...which has tons of restaurants and leads to the famous promenade

metrotech has security and is very clean

some of the surrounding streets are maybe not the greatest........but it depends what you are expecting. ive never had an incident there and i would not think twice about the area (and i used to stay in the area to all hours of the night)

sure there might be some homeless people around...but honestly, its NYC, this is what ive come to expect.

eta: its actually now called Polytechnic Institute of NYU...so in terms of a career opportunity, since its affiliated with NYU i think it might help open further doors. plus poly has a really long-standing, notable history in math/science/engineering
