When sending out your invitations, did the calligrapher write Dr. or Doctor? And did you do the same for PHD's?

The correct way is Doctor

only Mr., Mrs., Ms., Sr., and Jr. are abbreviated I believe

I know the correct way is to spell it out but my fiance is a Dr. and nobody seems to do that which is why I am wondering what people actually do.

You spell out the word Doctor, if they are a medical doctor. If they are a PHD type doctor then you do not add the title
